We have a double date with friends tonight that involves Chinese takeaway. I'm exercising lots today to add to my calorie allowance, but any tips as to what dishes I should choose?

Well, you could either just enjoy the yummyness that is chinese food.
Or, most chinese food places have a "lite" menu that usually consist of a few dishes like chicken, shrimp, steamed vegetables and white rice.0 -
Have soup first ( if you like it) then Just order what you want to eat. If it was a different type of restaurant I'd have more specific ideas but at the Chinese restaurant I go to even the brocolli is coated with saturated fat.0

I usually order chicken with veg.. with the sauce on side.0

I usually get soup to fill me up, EVEN THOUGH it is high in sodium and will make u bloat later, it will still fill you up with lower calories... then most places actually have a "diet menu" or a dish that is plain chicken w broccoli and you can ask them to hold the sauce on the side. good luck!0

Most chinese places have a tofu veggie stir fry meal. It's amazing. If you've never tried tofu before, the BEST place to try it would be at a chinese restaurant. YUM0

Limit the white rice and white noodles, avoid anything deep fried. Fill up on vegetables, lean meat and seafood dishes.0

Beef with broccoli or shrimp with veggies are both great choices. Stick to a small amount of rice or just skip the rice. Also, most Chinese places give you a double portion if it's considered a dinner. But most of the lunch specials are just right.0 -
I usually order steamed shrimp with Broccoli- sauce on the side. Delish!0

My bf owns a Chinese restaurant and I struggle with this often. Start with soup. Egg drop is the lowest calorie wise. Many restaurants also have a chicken noodle soup loaded with veg that works too. As for entrees, ask if they have brown rice for starters. I get kung pow chicken or beef. I tell them to go easy on the sauce or put it on the side. You can also do a side of string beans and steamed veggies. Don't ever worry about sounding picky, this is way common!0
