I was thinking about starting a vitamin regimen and don't know where to start. I would also like to start taking something before and after my workouts but, also don't know what to take. If you go to GNC or other heath food places its like a wall of stuff to take and I don't know the difference between the BS and the good stuff. If anyone out there is taking anything beneficial to there weight loss ( no diet pills ) and helps with there all around health plz pass your info on to help us just starting out with them. Thanks!

My MD said a regular multi-vitamin is more than enough. That's all I take-can't help with workout supplements-I don't use those (water is just fine for me).0

before a workout take caffeine as pills/coffee
a multi is fine the rest can cause more harm than good
if you are depressed take 5htp
if you want to be stronger take creatine
fish oils are also great
everything else legal is pointless and pretty much anything that works well is illegal0 -
Just take a grocery store multivitamin/multimineral supplement and eat well. Centrum is fine, $10-12, the GNC stuff is way overpriced. The best thing you can do is add lots of fresh vegetables and whole foods.
I also take fish oil and Vitamin D, since I live in the PNW and we get very little sun.0 -

Before a workout, drink some coffee or tea with caffeine.
After a workout, I would say protein. You can do the shake or they have them it pill form.
On a regular basis, I recommend a multi-vitamin, Fish Oil (omega-3 fatty acids) and a Vitamin B Complex. I also take CLA and Vitamin D.0 -
I work for a physician who feels a regular multi vitamin is great but you can add B complex and Vit D to help boost immunity. She also says fish oil but other than that the rest of the "Body Building" stuff is expensive and probably isn't going to help you lose weight. Have you spoken to a dietician? They may be able to give you better advice than us LOL.0

Ultimately, if you're hitting good servings of different foods, you don't actually need additional vitamins. A good daily multivitamin isn't usually amiss, however.
However, if your doctor recommends some, or working in certain foods just doesn't work for you... again, a multivitamin can still make up for that, generally. Other vitamins that can make a difference are Vitamin D3 (most people don't drink/eat enough things with that specific vitamin, and most VD3 out there is able to pick up the slack). B complex vitamins have a similar story.
Omega-3 supplements have been more recently shown to do little to none, and two cardiologists I saw recently felt it did nothing, as well; I believe krill oil is the most efficient omega-3 supplement. However... again... that's IF you can't seem to stomach the foods that would help you get these vitamins naturally.0 -
thanks everyone, sounds like I will be buying a good M/V taking my fish oil and some creatine, then drink a whey shake post workout. I will also be looking in to adding some amino acid supplement with my pre and post0
