Just stopped in to say Hi, I am Mom in my late 40's I am homeschooling my son, my daughter who I had homeschooled since she was in kinder is now in college. My hubby works full time I stay on our small farm & run it, we sell eggs, seasonal turkeys, pecans, lamb. I love flea marketing, bartering, & getting our gardens ready. I am a prepper I like to be prepared for any upcoming emergencys, makes me feel content so we can a lot of foods and rotate it along with other goods, I do a lot of couponing too.
I am excited about starting out this coming Monday, I am cleaning up this weekend first to start out fresh on Monday. I have a lot of weight to lose, but this year its not just about me its about my whole family eating and living better. We live on a small farm w/good foods, but I get tired easily w/so much work to do & I tend to eat out a lot when I go into the city & not the right foods, I don't make the good home cooked meals like I should, lots of convience foods, I walk a lot on my farm & I have the equipment to exercise I just dont make the time for it so hoping that will change. I am also a night owl, that has to change too since most of my day is gone if I sleep to late.
Good luck everyone, here is to a good upcoming year of eating healthy and losing weight

Oh wow! Do we have a lot in common! I could have written that introduction except I live on 5 acres in the mountains and we don't raise quite as much on our small gentlemans farm. I am a post homeschooler, love gardening, I am a Wife/Homemaker and I hear you when it comes to home cooking vs convenience meals...lol Costco is my favorite store to buy already prepped food to bring home and shove in the oven!
Good Luck on your journey. MFP is such a wonderful tool to becoming healthier. Friend request sent!0 -
Hello! I am also passionate about gardening. So cool about your farm! I got introduced to turkey eggs this summer, they are wonderful! Welcome to MFP and feel free to add me0

Hi honey....you can add me too. I am also a post-homeschooler and now an empty nester. I WISH I lived on a farm like yours, but that's not to be...my honey isn't a country boy. sigh...I'm very excited you've chosen this path. You will feel so much better when you've lost some weight - I know I do. I started here in July and have lost 25 pounds.0

my wife and i have one kid in a charter homeschool, but all 4 were homeschooled/unschooled at one point.
I'm very into gardening. I'm exploring aquaponics right now. I've researched organic gardening, biodynamic agriculture and even mycology a bit. I really believe in growing our own food as much as space allows and as naturally as possible0 -
Mike we have an aquaponics going too! We just build it this year, so far so good, we just have gold fish it for now since its a trial run for us, we lost two packs of gold fish b4 we got it right LOL. We also do hugelkulter method and started wicking, it seems to work for this hot Texas climate0

Kayduro we R thinking of joining Cosco again, but its pretty far away from me, closer to hubbys work. I was thinking of some weight watchers pre cooked meals at least something in that catagory for times when we have to eat fast, any suggestions?0

Supplemama what sort of gardens do you have? I have been trying to do pot gardening this last year I did really well with my garlic chives up to when my goat broke into our yard and ate them ;/0

Timby what are you doing to lose the weight?0

You have no idea how glad I am that the title of this wasn't, "Does anyone like to garden?" or "Does anyone homeschool their kids?" Pet peeve. So I already like you!
I have a feeling you and I will get along. FR sent!0 -

I have an in-ground garden and a balcony garden. In-ground I grow tomatoes, corn, turnips, spinach, lettuce, potatoes, cucumber, cantaloupe, okra, green beans, black beans, eggplant, jalapeño peppers, sunflowers. I'm probably forgetting something. I try to do something new every year, and some years I don't do everything. In the pots up on my balcony I grow tomatoes, okra, peas, and bell pepper.0 -
I grew up a farmboy in North Dakota but now am a city dweller. Man, could I just live at flea markets and thrift stores! Have fun on this exciting journey. Feel free to add me.0

Good for you hun. My wife and I do our own organic gardening. we grow lots of our own food. We also eat organic brown eggs.
If you are starting out I recommend reading Forks over Knives.
Good luck and let me know if I can be of any help.0 -
Wow! glad to know there are others out there with the same interests. I homeschool my daughter, have since 2nd grade and she's entering 10th here in a month or so. We live on 3.5 acres, 4.5 if you count my in laws land, they live about 300 ft from my front door. so we interchange tools, storage, etc easily. Grew up in So Cali but always knew i wanted to be a farmer. We've got about 900 sq ft of home garden, pigs for slaughter and are getting chickens for eggs and roasters. We are planting a small fruit orchard, raspberries, grapes and black berries this spring. Im trying to convince my inlaws we need a milk cow, but we'll see how that goes. My hubby's cousin is raising our beef cows since he has larger pasture land. We'll trade pork and beef when slaughter times come. Even started a compost bin this year!
I live in the middle of nowhere indiana, surrounded my birds, deer, racoons and corn fields. Great experience for my daughter i believe.
Feel free to add me, im here for the long haul.0 -

You can add me if you want. I homeschooled for years. My daughter is almost done with her second year of college and my son is just finishing school. He'll be 18 in a couple of weeks.
I do organic gardening with raised beds and containers. I preserve food through freezing, canning and dehydrating. I also make my own cleaning supplies. I make my own tinctures and medicinal teas, etc.
There is so much more but I do feel as though we have a lot in common.0 -
thanks for all the ads and encouragements!0

Hi there! Sounds like your living the good life, we raise pork, chicken and turkey and I garden to can for the winter. I am a long time couponer with 3 teens I need to be. I have just started to become a stockpiler after I almost lost my husband last year to Cancer. I need to be prepared if he loses his ability to work again and the medical bills are a real reality kick...but I always stay positive, this experience has just increased my passion to be self sufficient and made me plan better for my families future. We have a three acre hobby farm in Michigan, I am 38 and I have about 50 pounds to lose. My husbands health scare has prompted me to get in better shape and I am hoping to have MFP help me along.
Id like to add you as a friend, to motivate each other but there is so much to learn from Country folks! I am endlessly fascinated with raising and growing our own food supply.

Where in Texas are you? I'm in the Bryan/College Station area. I don't home school, but do have 5 acres and a nice garden. We also raise chickens and sheep. I have been thinking about getting some bee hives as well. We can a lot of our produce (whatever we don't eat or freeze), lol. I've reached my goal weight and am now working on maintaining and adding in some strength building. I thought once I reached goal, my journey would be over, but in many ways, maintaining is it's own journey; or rather an extension of the healthy lifestyle journey. Feel free to add me!0
