Heart monitors/Polar FT4?

Hi there,
I'm looking into buying a heart rate monitor/calorie counter so I can give a more accurate measurements when putting into my diary. After scouring the web for reviews, it seems that the Polar FT4 is the favourite. I've found one for round about £50 on Amazon, and I'm just wondering does it matter if I get the FT4M of FT4F?
Do the watches ask for your gender anyway? It just looks like the female straps are a bit slimmer. If that's the only difference, am I okay to get the FT4M for myself?
Cheers in advance!

As far as I know, FT4 doesn't display the calories burned. just the heart rate. For around $10 more, I'd recommend you buy the FT7. It displays calories and much more...0

I have the FT4 and it does display calories. I think the only difference between the F and M is the style, colour and strap width. I have the FT4F and it asks for gender in the set up so I assume the FT4M would have the same setup.0

FT4 does display the calories burned.
This is what I found:
- FT7 tells you whether you are in fatburn or fitness mode.
- FT7 stores more history. It stores the last 99 workouts when the FT4 stores 10.
- FT7 allows you to upload your workouts using a Polar FlowLink device which is optional (it DOES NOT come with the FT7, you would have to purchase it separately)
If you are going to be using it to track your workouts to be better able to log accurately, you will have everything you need in the FT4. I have one and I love it
You are right about the difference between male and female being the strap size and some of the colors.0 -
Thank you for all the answers guys!
I only asked cause for some reason the silver one is like £2 cheaper than the coloured ones, something daft like that, and all I could see different was obviously colour and strap size. Was just wondering why the difference!
Thank you for clearing up that there's no real difference other than style!0 -

The FT4 does display the calories burned. The only difference I have seen between the 4 and the 7. (I have the 4 and hubby has the 7), is that the 7 shows a 'fitness zone' above the 'fat burning zone' where the FT4 only shows the 'fat burning zone'.
The only difference between the male and female version of the watch, is the size of the watch strap and the colors.0 -
I have the FT4 and preferred the male one so I bought that!! Makes no differenc as it askes your gender, DOB etc and sets your exercise zone based on that.
I like it to track how many calories I've burned during my exercise session so I can accurately know what my intake / loss is every day.
It's simple to use and I don;t think the cardio / fat burn zone is that important. As long as you are working your heart regardless which zone you're in you are improveing your muscle tone, cardio and well being.0 -
I have the ft4f and I love it! I have the pink one. The strap is really slim. It can be worn as a day to day watch too (not chunky). I got mine from argos and for an extra £9.99, I have 2 years insurance on it0
