Food Scale and Weight Scale

Who has one, what brand(s) are they and what do you like about them? I need to purchase a new weight scale for myself but, I want a food scale for in the kitchen. I think it will do me some good to actually measure the ounces on my meats and such instead of guessing.

I have a simple food scale (not digital) that I bought at bed bath and beyond for $12. I love it and use it daily.

I bought mine for $20 at Walmart- it's digital and weighs in grams, oz, kg, and pounds. I use it every day and it's the best tool for guaranteeing accuracy!

I bought a Weight Watchers bathroom scale and I like it - it measures bone, fat, and water, too. The only problem is that it seems to keep a memory of the last weight you came in at and repeats it, like it isn't actually weighing you? I've gotten around this by "resetting" it every time I weigh - I put one foot on and have it give me a funky half weight, then once it clears that out, I actually weigh myself. Seems accurate, but kind of a pain in the butt! It was $40.

As for kitchen scale, I have an Escali that I really love. Digital, lots of options for different measures (grams, lbs, ounces, fl ounces, mL), seems very accurate.

I bought one made by OXO at Target. I think I had a Target 5% coupon and some gift cards. At any rate it has a $30.00 price point at the OXO web site and they have others that are even more expensive. I like this one because it has a pull out display that means you can put your dinner plate on it and still read the display.

A note about weighing your food... DO IT - ALWAYS! Yesterday I scanned the bar code on a bag of potatoes and it told me that one potato was 140 calories. Now... If I had gone with just the 140 calories for 1 potato at 148 grams weight, then I would have been way off. I decided to weigh all the potatoes in the bag and the smallest one was 341 grams. My potato was actually 256 calories!

I could easily see how someone dieting without a food scale and tracking could be frustrated!
  • I just purchased a food scale a few days ago to start my diet planning. This scale is less than $20 and works great. You can zero out the weight of the container you are using then add anything you want to weigh, in Grams or oz's....

    Walmart link....

    Good luck

Just make sure you can easily change from ounces to grams on your food scale. I have an old weight watchers digital scale. It works great.

We went through several and returned them as they kept kicking off different weights of variances of as much as 5-10 pounds when we would step on. My husband and I would alternate (as some scales use memory and if there is no more than a pound difference they will read the same). Some scales were TERRIBLE. Most would give 2-3 pound difference. But we settled on a Taylor that didn't do it. We got it at Target for abotu $20, but many stores have it. Here is a pic of it. It also does higher weights accurately which is harder to find.

Our food scale is a cheap digital I got for $10 at Aldi. It seems to do just fine.

I have weight scale that's about 5 years old. I got it from bed bath and beyond, I don't remember the brand, but I like it because I can record two different weights. Which works great for me and my boyfriend.

The food scale I just recently purchased because I needed a new one for my soap making. So I bought a nice one, oxo brand. I think it was $30-35. I bought it mostly for the soap, because the reading part pulls out and away. So if you are weighing something in a large bowl or pot then you can pull it out and away and be able to read it. I really like it so far.

I bought a really cheap non-digital food scales from Walmart for like $6. I should have known better to go so cheap, I question it's accuracy often. I'll buy a decent digital food scale eventually.

My weight scale is an old dial scale. It's been laser accurate but I would like to upgrade to one that does bf% eventually.

Oppps sorry, I gave the wrong link. That must be a different model because the first only is accurate to 330. The one we have that weighs so well is accurate to 440

I just bought a Starfrit one.

    http://www.atlanticpromotionsinc.com/products/2-starfrit/58-kitchen_accessories/63-kitchen_scales/295-0934280060000-nutritional_kitchen_scale_.html

So far I like it and it seems to do exactly what I wanted. Weigh food. The nutritional value function is also kind of neat.
