Treat MFP like some of your friends treat Facebook?

Yea, me too.

I just see it as a healthier social media site for me right now. It's comfortable to just tell it like it is and update my status about how I am really feeling. Some of my FB friends tell you ther life story, plus some! With FB, I second-guess every single post, what will my mom think? what will my boss think? what will my employees think? what will my ex-boyfriend think? .... but here it's not the same. We've all become friends based on 1 thing we all have in common - we're holding ourselves accountable to a healthy lifestyle through mindful eating (& logging) and exercise.

So I post daily. I am transparent about my struggles, challenges, successes and excitement! I love to see my other friends that post daily and how they're doing on their own adventures. Even when it has nothing to do with eating, exercising or physical health. The emotional health and emotional support is just as important, if not more.

If you post daily like I do and enjoy reading frequent statuses, feel free to friend me!

I actually deactivated my FB account in May of 2012 and have not had any regrets. I find MFP to be more of a positive place for me. :)

Same! Although I do love me some "airing my dirty laundry on the front lawn aka facebook" activity from some of my friends. What can I say?? But this is a more positive forum, and I do find myself sharing more on here because its more positive!

Oh and feel free to add me because I would like more friends who are connected to MFP and are motivated!!!
  • I pretty much don't log into Facebook anymore after finding MFP. This is a much healthier alternative, in my opinion. It's nice seeings so much positivity!

I feel I can be transparent here. During most of my weight loss journey, I was careful to only post a few of my fitness milestones because I feared judgement. I also was afraid people would get sick of hearing about the struggles of losing weight. Now I spend way more time on here than on facebook.

Yeah, I do that too sometimes. Not in a TMI, make people roll their eyes kind of way, though! I've posted things I wouldn't have posted on FB because I'm afraid of judgment or getting the "why are you trying to lose weight?" question. But I feel safer here, even though it seems a little strange! In fact I told one of my MFP buddies something the other day that I've kept a very precious secret from my co-workers for the past 7 years. If it's going to help on my or maybe someone else's journey, then it's not so scary!

I agree. MFP is like therapy for me. Most of my real friends are already in great shape and don't understand why I am so crazy about scanning and logging my food all the time and pre-planning my workouts for the week. It's nice to have friends that understand what I am going through on here!

I totally agree! If I am feeling so so about being motivated I can always find something here to get me going. I avoid any negative threads, trying to stick to just being a better person, wife, mom and healthier:)

I laughed SO hard!! I am the same way about Facebook, it's so mainstream now, and I'm friends with all my family, I don't feel comfortable at all getting on there and venting about how I feel about myself, because people would think I'm looking for a pity party, but here, people understand the struggles of the ups and downs of weight loss/fitness... and we're all here, like you said, for a common goal.....

I usually delete people who do this. I don't need to know every single detail about your life. If it's about being healthy, that's different, but I had a friend that posted every single time she did a squat or when her measurements went down by 1/16". As with FB, there is such a thing as posting too much. Just not for me.

  • I agree, MFP is similar to facebook, but a lot friendlier! because we all want the same thing, we are all more supportive of each other

I use both, but am different on each.

Facebook is full of uni friends, people I went to school with and colleagues...people who I prefer not to show vulnerability to. I've always been self conscious about weight struggles and prefer to only share that with people in a similar situation. plus my stepchildren are on there so I tend to censor myself.

on here, I don't feel the need to worry about what people might think as much, there's no judgement. and I haven't put hundreds of photos of the cat on here...yet!!
  • HAHAHA!!

My heart jumped into my throat when I read this. Haha.
  • I am new to this app/site, but I plan to be a "regular" here soon :)
