Weightlifting and Converse

Hi everyone.
My regular old trainers that I normally wear for the gym have had it, and I was looking in to new shoes to buy when I came across a lot of info regarding wearing chuck Taylor's/high tops to lift.
I already have a couple of pairs of these just because I like how they look. Is it true they would be appropriate, even beneficial for lifting?
If I can save money on buying new shoes that's awesome, please give me your opinions on the subject.

Certain things like squats and deadlifts are being done no favors by wearing running or cross trainers. They mess with forward balance. Flats like CT's are preferable. I like my water shoes for doing those since it's what I have.0

That's really good to know. My poor balance is my biggest weakness when it comes to my squats and deads. Anything that will help is great!0

Chuck Taylors are the best lifting shoe other than purpose-made lifting shoes.
The key is the (relatively) non-compressible sole and that they're flat.
weight lifting shoes > chucks > barefoot > running shoes0 -
Yes! Confirmation I get to wear my favourite shoes to the gym.
Glad I have not yet heard anything negative about it.0 -

^ This. I personally do my squats and deads in bare feet but that's me. Plenty of people swear by the Chucks.0 -
I am new to lifting but have been happy using my Vibram Five Fingers (I don't think my gym allow barefoot lifting). They also are flat with basically no added cushioning to the sole.0

My gym would drop kick someone trying to rock bare feet0

Sambas! I'm still mad at Converse for selling out 10 years ago, no more free ones....although I do still wear them occasionally.0

That's what I wear.0

I wear CT or just go in my bare feet. The heavy sole helps keep you planted when you feel like you're gonna roll forward (squats) or helps you keep that invisible d!ck tucked while deadlifting.0

Barefoot, socks, or the Vibrams is my preferred way to lift.0

Yup, all my lifting's done in Chucks, although every now and then I'd rock the vibrams.0

My red converse are on my ticker0

Just got a pair of Chuck's last week for training... They're awesome.0

I have worn my chucks because I think I look cool. I wear my FILA Toe shoes now.0

It now makes total sense why the biggest dude at my gym wears bright orange Chucks. This answered so many things I've wondered about him...0

I have come to use my Vibram FiveFingers (Jaya) for my cardio and my lifting....no more 2 pairs of gym shoes....0

Just switch them out if you're going to run on the treadmill or use an elliptical. Things will kill your ankles after a mile. For lifting thought it seems like they'd be perfect.0
