This is Hard!!!

I didnt know getting old was so hard. I'm 37 and I feel body parts squeeking and cracking. Working out really hurts, but gaining weight and feeling the body deteriorate hurts more. Working out is like quitting drugs or alcohol.....one day at a time.

Start slow on the exercise. Don't try to be superwoman all at once. The more weight you lose the easier it will get.
You're only 37, thats not old. I'm 56. I started this at 212 pounds. All my joints ached from all that weight. As i lost weight i started feeling a whole lot better. I'm now down to 128 and i can do things i couldn't do before and my joints don't ache anymore. Take one day at a time and don't over do it.

Um, yes, I'm starving and I feel like I'm 80 even though I'm 28! But I know that losing weight will make me feel better... And that's my motivation! :)

I'm 37 too and my body is junk. it is mostly because of playing hockey in college, but my weight gain doesn't help at all. just remember to listen to your body. no pain/no gain is stupid if it causes you injury. that being said, sometimes you can push through some kinds of pain (muscle soreness) but if you are unable to walk or otherwise function after a workout, you should think about doing a different work out. I use the Wii Fit to do yoga and it helps a lot to get me warmed up before i do anything else.
I hope this helps a little. Good luck.

Hey guys and gals. Don't complain about feeling like 70 until you're there! It's worse than you feel right now!

Good Morning, they say the golden year, Lol . I have trouble with hips going to choropractor which does help, my legs tighten up if I over do. Hang in there you beautiful girls. Im 61 but we still have to move it. Definately if we lose it, moving gets easy. Just losing 10 LB makes things a little easier. think small, LOL
  • Already feeling this bad, I can't imagine what 70 IS going to feel like. most likely WAY worse :(

Starting workouts at 49 is even tougher, so good that you started now. Ice packs are my friends. I iced my knees and back after every ride in the beginning and that really helped. I rarely have to do it anymore, unless it is a really hard ride above my norm.
You will be amazed at how quickly your body gets used to it and starts to feel better tho. Keep it up and I promise, it gets better!
  • I'm only 25 lol but I have arthritis in several places already sigh. I have a hard time opening jars and stuff already. Has nothing to do with my weight though I just started getting it early, before I even gained weight.

    Along with GREY HAIR ugh!

Of course it's hard. If it were EASY, then people wouldn't be overweight. I turn 49 in a couple of weeks and while I'm not as spry as my 20's, I still outdo males 25 years younger than me. Getting older does make it harder, but really can't be used as an excuse to not being fit.

Retraining your body to do things it's not used to is hard at any age. I've been running for years, consider myself to be a pretty fit 46 YO, but doing fitness videos where I'm exercising different muscle sets has shown me that being fit for one exercise type doesn't mean you're fit for all!! Keep it up and you'll find the pain decreases.

The good news is that it gets easier pretty quickly. Just keep going and you will see improvement before you know it!

I am 47 years old (48 in March) and I started at 255 in Oct. I finished the C25K program in December, I am amazed that I can run for 30 min at a time but I did it! For the first time in my life I didn't quit and I did it. Today I start the bridge to 10K and in 6 weeks I will be running for 60 min at a time! It seems crazy but I'll get it done. From there I'm going to add weight training. It will all get easier as I get lighter but the key is to keep going and it will get easier. I will say that for the first few weeks of running I took my favorite pain reliever to help with leg pain, so I would stock up on your pain reliever of choice and take it if you need it.

The hard part is getting started, make the commitment and in a couple weeks you will look back and be surprised at how far you've come!

Yeah... I'm thinking if it's that hard, you either have a serious medical issue (and I do... it's possible) OR yer doin' it wrong. Exercise is very important, but if you hurt / kill yourself it's doing you no good. Perhaps ease up just a bit. When it stops being challenging, then ramp up a little. *pat pat*

I hear ya- I feel broken! I am 36 but was very hard on my body when I was yonger. And now with 140ish to lose, that doesn't help. Sometimes it hurts just to stand  It will get better though!

This^^^^ I'll be 50 this July, and have been working out a little over a year. I feel better than I did in my 20's!

I'm starting out at 50! After a workout my legs and arms are sore, but it's a good kind of sore. It's when my back and knees ache from the weather I don't like. I'm hoping that once I get rid of 100 or so lbs it'll get better.

I felt the same as you when I first started losing weight. Even the simplest things made my knees ache. However, now I feel much younger!! Eating right and exercising has made a huge difference for me. It was not the age for me that was the problem, it was the abuse I was heaping on my body in the form of bad food choices and extra weight. I still have weight to lose, but i feel fabulous!

When I started at 425, the trip from bed to shower, to bedroom, to fridge, to stove, to recliner, out the door to car, in the door at work up the elevator and sit at my desk... reverse to close the day... watch the three year old play and sleep was my day... Pathetic! Now I not only take the three floor trek up the stairs I actually did suicides twice today... up to first landing, down... up to second landing, down... up to third landing, down... up to fourth landing and down then back up again. It really works just keep moving a little more today than yesterday. Eating a little better today than yesterday... Find something to improve... Work on macronutrients, work on micronutrients, I've gone from just hurting because I was too big to hurting because I'm pushing myself just short of the breaking point each day. At 43, I feel better than I did at 33. I chase the three year old now without wheezing and passing out. I can even catch him now! Amazing what you can do in six months...
