The Inheritance Trilogy is one of my favourite fantasy series. I don't read a huge amount of fantasy but always like it when I do.
I found the series to be very engaging, but rather lacking overall. Still, considering the age of the author and that it is his first works, I give it a round of applause and look forward to reading his work as it matures.
I agree. I was pretty awestruck when I learned how young he was.0 -
I"m a super serious Laurell K Hamilton fan. I love Anita Blake and the Meredith Gentry series. Can't wait for the next Anita and I think i read that she is going to continue the MG series too.
I haven't ready MG... Been tempted though. I'm crazy excited for the next Anita book.
If you like AB you will like MG too, I think. I actually read MG first and would pick up the AB books read the back and say "eh, looks ok, but not a must read." Then I found the first book at a university book store for like $.25, bought it and fell in love. You should definitely read Kushiel's Dart.0 -

Post apocalyptic literature fans?
I like it in theory, but never seem to actually pick anything up of this genre and read it. Same with dystopian type books.
There is so much now. A lot of it is crap but there is some good stuff out there.
I highly reccommend Max Brook's World War Z and Alex Scarrow's Afterlight
Two completely different books but both awesome0 -

Everyone will probably laugh at me, but I really liked Hunger Games and Catching Fire, Mockingjay was ok, but not the greatest in my opinion. Isn't World War Z the one they are making into a movie with Brad Pitt?0 -

I wasn't really into the books when they came out. The author came to my public high school wearing tights and a tunic. I'm surprised he didn't get jumped. However, I gave the books a try and I loved them. I agree that it could have used more... something, but hopefully he'll find growth in future works.0 -
I found Hunger Games, mostly the first book, to be absolutely amazing. I couldn't put it down when I started reading it until I finished it.0

The Hunger Games are a fantastic series. I actually read quite a few YA books. Don't be ashamed!
The movie starring Brad Pitt is a mockery of a fantastic book (or so it seems from the trailer) the plot is literally unrecognisable. It makes me want to burn things.0 -

Awesome, yeah I do too. The World War Z the book sounds like a good read. I actually picked up a few YA books at NYComicCon in October that I'll be reading when I get home. I also went to a panel they had with some of the YA authors (including the writer of Beautiful Creatures which is being made into a movie that I don't plan to see). There was another panel though that featured my fav author (Jaqueline Carey) and she also did a book signing!! So did Kim Harrison, but i haven't gotten into her books. I tried to read one and couldn't finish it, granted it wasn't the first one in the series, so maybe that was why it didn't grab me.
Speaking of book to movie adaptations, I think the Hunger Games movie was ok. I recognize that a loooootttt of people loved it, even ones that read the book. It was definitely a box office hit. I think i need to watch it again, with a less judging eye. World War Z..hmmm...I guess we'll see.
BTW, I think they are planning to make an Anita Blake movie. LKH mentioned in on her FB page. I would be so excited/so sad.
I started reading this series by Darynda Jones, First Grave On The Right(I think). It's pretty good, has some good humor.0 -
i've lost some of my geek cred over the years as i ran out of time to do things like read books and study, but I still like the newer star trek stuff (voyager being 'new'), and being a professional programmer i'm tech nerdy, hopefully that counts0

So...what's going on tonight?0

I completely forgot to watch Firefly today. Oh well, I'm heading out of town in the morning so I'll just watch it at the hotel.0

*raises hand*
Mostly books (science fiction, fantasy, historical)/science/math/computers/programming (html, css, javascript, php, java, python)/art/music.
I don't have a TV, but the things that I do choose to watch online tend to lean towards Firefly, Dr. Who, Game of Thrones, and Sherlock.0 -
Any Browncoats amongst ye?
Very much yes0 -
I suppose I should introduce myself?
I read comics. I write smut. I was a spelling bee champ (excuse any typos, getting used to my new phone's keyboard size). I am currently in the middle of A Song of Ice and Fire and The Wheel of Time series, I love me some Firefly and some David Tennant. Grew up watching Monty Python and that made me a HUGE nerd in elementary school when my bullies thought that was the "snake from Harry Potter".
I'm witty, I'm charming, I'm a culinary graduate with honours.
I can destroy my boyfriend at Halo, I can phase circles around him in Borderlands. Just finished replaying Ocarina of Time and am now onto the Wind Waker. I ish nerd.0 -
