I would like to have this surgery too. My insurance does not cover it but I am going to try to fight to get it. Any case in answer to your question there is a group that does support for wls for any surgery not just one

I too am considering the sleeve myself. I do not have a surgery date yet but as soon as I get down 15 lbs I can do it, however I am still considering it. I would love to follow your progress if you dont mind? Good luck on November 14th!!0

Check with your surgeon's office...they should have a support group or at least a list of support group websites. I'm sure there's others on this website who've had surgery....ask them to friend you.0

I admit that I didn't have the gastric sleeve, but I did have the biliopancreatic diversion with duodenal switch a yr. ago. So, I do understand something about what you are going to go through. Please feel free to add me.0

Good luck with the gastric sleeve surgery. I am in the final stages of qualifying for insurance payment... have done everything else. Have ordered my 2 week pre-surgical liquid diet, and the 3 weeks after... Good luck on the 14th with your surgery... I have people I know that are extremely happy with their surgeries. I've put this off for 3 years hoping I could get a handle on it; but I must give in. Went in thinking I wanted the Lap Band, but b/c of health issues am going straight for the "sleeve"... I am hoping to have surgery early to mid-December 2012... Will keep you in my thoughts on your surgery for the 14th!!!0

Hi, I'm so glad I found this group, I had my surgery on Nov. 14th too. So far down 30 pounds, I lost about 10 before going in. I'm starting to weigh myself every few days instead of every day. I'm doing ok, but the nausea is up and down, today its not so good. I also have an issue when I eat sometimes, it feels like the food is stuck at the top of my stomach like a rock. Anyone else have this issue.
I also found a site called Sleeve Talk.com Its a great site.
Good luck, and keep this going, its good to hear what others are going through. ;-)0 -

Had a Band placed in Feb 2011 and Removed 11-2012. Soon to be sleeved.0

I had a gastric plication in Dec 2011 which is very similar to a gastric sleeve. The difference is the stomach is not cut. It is, instead, folded into a "taco" and then double sutured. The result is a tiny tummy--and it has been the best money I ever spent!
My insurance would have payed 100% for a band, but when I read about the plication, I decided to spend my own money and have that done instead. I did not like the idea of a foreign device residing in my body.
I lost nearly 30 lbs in the first 6 weeks and stabilized to a weight that has not varied by 2 lbs over the last year--despite a cruise to Alaska!
Now, I am still too heavy for my height at 172 lbs on small 5'3" frame. However, the original problem of carrying too much weight on my hip replacement hardware was solved with the procedure. Now, it is time to clean up my nutritional act! One of the unanticipated complications of the tiny tummy is I can eat anything I want and all I want. Though this is psychologically-freeing, I have become complacent about the food I eat and am over-calorie-ing.
So, I decided to lose the "last 10" and this app was well-recommended. It helps to keep me focused on my goals: better food choices and awareness of calories, rather than food volume.0 -
I got my sleeve on 11/21/12 after trying to lose it on my own ( and failing) several times.
So excited to have this tool and finally have the outside match how I feel on the inside0 -
I was sleeved July 2011. I'm part of 3 groups here. The 2 for gastric sleeve I belong to are VSGs and Sleevers. There might be more, but those are the 2 I know of. I also belong to a West Michigan Bariatric Group, which may or may not apply to you. Feel free to add me as a friend if you are interested. And good luck to everyone!!0

Like Pawoodhull, I was sleeved October 2012! Best decision I ever made for myself. I do belong to the VSGers but got great support and information from www.verticalsleevetalk.com and www.obesityhelp.com. Just remember ~ this is a weightloss tool in your tool box, not a magic wand. That's why MFP works so well. You can and do get the support you need. There is lot of support and really good information out there but you have to read it all for yourself (and discard whatever doesn't benefit you!) ! I wish you all the best and you can add me if your interested.0
