30 day shred or P90X??

My husband and I recently got p90x for Christmas. I haven't worked out in a while...like 6 months! Ugh, I know. I really want to do P90x, but I really feel like it is too much for me. Should I do 30ds first, and then p90x. I feel like I will build myself up a bit doing 30ds first.....

Personally I'd do the 30 day shred first to work your way up, p90x isn't an easy low intensity program.

That being said, you could go ahead and adapt the exercises, many you can use lighter weights, or adjust to make them easier, and they'll show you how.

That being said, who wants to only do p90x half-way? I'd much rather be able to go into it at my best to maximize the results.

Ultimately, what matters is what's going to motivate you to get moving, as long as you're smart about knowing your limits, then go ahead :p

I think you should do 30DS first. You need some type of fitness basis, and jumping into insanity is not your best option. 30DS is more of a beginners program (though, it's no joke!!) so it could help you get ready for insanity.
  • My thoughts exactly, Thank Ya'll! I want to go into P90x full force, not weak.... I do plan to Insanity after a couple of rounds of P90X. :)

Are you guys really going to make me be the person recommending P90x? Really?

Do the P90x. It's not too much at all. You're perfectly capable of handling it and since it's a much more comprehensive program you will get better results and you will get them sooner. It's a program made for beginners so you will be fine.

I am recommending P90x for you because i believe in you. I hope you believe in yourself also.

P90X includes a fit test to get a general assessment on where you are in regards to starting the program. I'd suggest taking it and if you meet the requirements jump right on in. Don't be discouraged if you can't do a pull up either. I'd say the vast majority of those that started the program couldn't or could only do 1 (like myself).

One other key to the program is there are ways to modify it to fit your fitness level so you can ease into it initially.

So my vote would be, P90X if you can knock out the majority of it's fit test. :)

Good luck on whatever your choose first!

OK - I'm gonna even it out. Do the P90X. As mentioned, you can modify many of the moves, if needed. And what if you do 30DS, but still can't do the P90X moves right out of the box? It's not doing it "halfway," if you have to modify - it's doing what you can do and improving over time.
  • Do the P90x. I am starting today and I haven't been to the gym in 3 years. They totally make it adaptable for fitness levels. I found all the information online, and got the videos from someone. I even have a coach at beach body for free, she has been very helpful. I'm also following the diet they recomend in the books. So I say go with the p90x and BRING IT!!!

I agree. I don't know whether you have done 30DS before. I did it for two weeks and it is challenging but the repetitiveness of doing the same thing every day got to me quickly. I like 90x because it does show high and low intensity moves and I get to switch it up everyday. I look forward to a different workout each day.

I did P90X at 235 lbs before doing 30DS. I found 30DD and/or Ripped in 30 to be the quick, 30mins version of P90X, when I was really pressed for time, I substituted. I did not lose as much with the 30DS as I did with the P90X in a month. So I would recommend to do P90X.
  • I'm curious what you went ahead and did! I personally was far too out of shape to jump into P90X, as far as I was concerned. I have 2 DVDs: 30-day Shred and Debbie Sieber's Slim in Six. SiS has improved my endurance b/c it's a progressively longer workout as you advance through the levels. 30DS is a lot, packed into 3 20-minute workouts. My wife has been doing them with me and she likes the SiS b/c Jillian scares her. LOL! If I didn't have the 2 videos, I'd definitely be craving variety. I'm in my last week of my 30-day preliminary fitness acclimation and I'm really feeling ready to Bring It with Tony Horton and the crew. I hope you have had success, no matter what choice you made. Good luck to everyone who posted and continued accomplishments to all!
