Sit ups/crunches, pushups, squats, lunges... using your body weight is fine. You can do jumping jacks, maybe jump rope, get exercise DVDs..0

How many should I aim for of each exercise?0 -
Depends on your fitness level..
If you are new to such things, start out slow with maybe 1 or 2 sets of 10.
Do you have any weights at home? What is your current fitness level?0 -
I have the same problem I have the elliptical, but want to get more into a routine of videos and weights. Have you checked out your local library for fitness DVD or dependng on your television they have fitness workouts as well. The library also carries alot of books on fitness I like finding stuff there because if you don't like it no money wasted.0

Eat less. That is all that is needed to "lose weight" To preserve muscle and avoid looking squishy even after weight loss, a well balanced resistance training routine is needed.0

I only eat 1400 calories a day. I don't want to go much lower. I am afraid I will go into starvation mode. I have an extremely slow metabolism.0 -

Fair enough. Don't overlook my last sentence though0 -
I don't know if you have a cable service, but our cable has On Demand. There are free exercise programs on there that you could do to start out with. And make yourself do everything at home the hard way. Make yourself bend to reach and walk around the house more. It is great that you are starting out doing something that is so good for you!
Make sure and use those calories the right way. Are you going low calorie? Low Carb? Paleo? LGains? Keto? Figure this out, that way you can plan your meals out and get the most bang for your buck.
Good luck!
ps- and once you start feeling healthier, maybe try to start lifting weights0
