How to make yourself eat when you just don't want to?

I'm feeling very depressed today, and haven't been able to bring myself to really eat or drink. I managed a few sips of water off and on and an apple for dinner. Even eating the apple was so forced that I couldn't fully finish and felt like I was going to throw up the whole time I was eating it. Sometimes having an apple makes my appetite a little stronger at times which is why I picked it but it just didn't help. I've been working so on my goals and don't want to mess anything up. Those of you who just can't manage to eat when depressed...How do you manage eating? Do you keep pushing through it or just not eat?

Thanks for the reply...I really can't force anything else down. I didn't know how long it takes for starvation mode to kick in as I probably won't be up to eating or drinking tomorrow either. We shall see. Thanks again.0

Someone here had posted a link that explained something interesting about starvation mode, and how it was mostly a myth. I can't remember the particulars, but it won't set in if you don't eat for a day or two, so I wouldn't worry.
That said, I wish I had your problem...usually when I'm stressed, or depressed, I have to fight the urge I get to go buy a chocolate cake or something...haha.0 -
Are you receiving treatment for depression? That sounds pretty severe. I have felt that way, but not to the extent that I couldn't make myself eat at least a little. When I get depressed, it's not that I don't want food, more that I don't feel I deserve it.
I am so sorry you are feeling so bad, and that it could last more than just today. Is there anyone you can talk to about the cause for your depression?
Be sure you are at least drinking water, or any non-alcoholic beverage you like. How about a comforting warm cup of tea or hot chocolate? Dehydration will only make you feel worse, and it's more dangerous than not eating for a day.0 -
Thanks, I will try and get some tea down me later if I can. I'm not seeing anyone for depression as it is not chronic, just had some bad news about my son today and I'm struggling with it. Thanks again for the suggestions.0
