H.E.L.P.

Hello All... I'm turning 30 in less than two weeks & I'm at my highest weight ever  I used be at my ideal weight, but after I had my second child things just got ridiculous. Not only did I gain weight, but I kept gaining. I don't know what's wrong with me. I just to be on top of my game... always eating healthy, in the gym just about every morning & drinking nothing but water. Now things are the the exact opposite. I drink lots of juice & soda, I continuosly order out & I don't even know what the inside of a gym looks like these days. I just can't seem to get the mentality & motivation back. Oh and did I mention, I was born, raised & live in Philly... Home of the Cheesesteak!

I'm looking to lose 100+ lbs. Is anyone else embarking on that kind journey? Feel free to add me & we can do it together.
  • I've always been over weight and I need to lose 119lbs to be at a healthy weight. I just acepted I was going to be fat forever and I was ok with that until some family members started to comment about my weight. I fell into a deep dark depression but after I started taking anti-depressents I decided I was going to make a change. I lost three stone last year and I'm now looking to lose the rest through my fitness pals as i think I need that little bit of encouragement.

I've never birthed anything out of my body, and I try not to use the word journey.:drinker:

My advice as a self registered internet official.
Welcome to mfp! Its great hear.
    Stop using the word journey.
If you are looking for 100+ people there are a lot here, and all super inspiring!

Good for you... Even though we hate to hear negativity, it's sometimes what we need to get motivated.

Congrats on deciding it's time to change! It can be overwhelming to try to change everything at once. Try picking one thing you're going to change right out of the gate, get comfortable with that, and then change the next thing. For instance, your one thing could be to dump all the pop down the sink and go back to drinking water. Keep some of the juice (If it's real juice mind you, otherwise its the same as pop) and use it to wean yourself off the sweets. Once that doesn't seem so bad, tackle the next thing you want to change :) Good luck, and feel free to add me as a friend :)

Well, you said you know what to do... start incorporating one change every week or two and stick to your guns. This week is no soda, or only 1 a day. Next week, go for a walk every morning or night. And so on... It adds up. Your body is the sum of your choices.

I grew up on cheese steaks but wouldn't touch them now if you paid me. Yuck!! greasy sloppy messy disgusting artery cloggers is all I can think of now when I see one. First make small changes for yourself. Cut out the soda period. Don't even drink the diet stuff. Then try to cut out all fruit juices or cut back on them to 4 oz's once a day. Personally I don't drink soda or juice. Never liked any of that stuff. For exercise start with walking. Set small obtainable goals for yourself and each time you reach a goal if you award yourself don't award yourself with food. I award myself with clothes or going to the movies or new makeup or getting my hair done.
You have to really want to do this. If you don't want it your not going to stick with it. Do it for yourself and no one else. Don't expect others to do it with you or help you out. You're going to have to stick with the plan you set up for yourself and be your own advocate. There are so many rewards to losing weight and getting healthy. Lots of people notice and will complement you, you get to wear a lot of really nice clothes, you will look much younger, your health will improve, you'll add years to your life etc etc.

Good luck and stick with it.

A Cheesesteak in the most greasy, fattening, heart attack on a roll food you'll ever eat. Its also one of the best and most satisfying foods you'll ever eat. Its chopped up steak (usually cooked on a flat top grill) w/ melted cheese on a long roll. Lots of people here get there's w/ salt, pepper, fried onions & mayo.

Its thin cuts of beef that is grilled or a griddle and cut up (very greasy) put on a long keiser roll with cheese and usually also has onions, red and green peppers then whatever you want on top of that. I used to love the cheese steak hoagies. Which has lettuce onions, hot peppers and cheese on the roll with that greasy beef.

Thanks a bunch... I definitely plan on cutting out the soda A.S.A.P. Soda is no longer an option. I trying to get some walking in, but its so hard. I work a 10hr shift & its a desk job. I have to be to work at 6am, so going out in the morning isn't an option. Then I go home to 2 little ones. I'm trying now to work out a schedule where I can get some exercise in.

Don't do that - don't make these kinds of convictions. I've lost weight eating McRibs at McDonalds this winter. It's not about bad food - it's about bad eaters.

You're here - that's step one. So figure out what your daily calorie intake needs to be and aim for it. If you want a cheesesteak, get one! Or make one at home where it's much healthier (drain the grease, use less cheese, low-carb bread or wheat, etc). Then cut out that nighttime ice cream or bag of potato chips - just aim for your goals on a daily basis.

When you villianize food, you get into silly debates about "cheating" and "rewarding" and all that nonsense. Just be SMART about it. Educate yourself first, and then you'll be able to make healthy decisions and adjustments throughout the day.

Most importantly, accept the fact that you have a LONG road ahead of you - this won't happen overnight. Accept that this has to become a new way of life - truly a lifelong commitment, and you WILL SUCCEED. I can guarantee it. Trust me - if I can do it, anybody can!

    Good luck.

It depends on the size. Nevertheless, I seriously doubt that there's a healthier alternative. I absolutely love them, but they simply cannot be an option.

Then you were lied to. If a McRib is 500 calories, there's no way in the world a cheesesteak is 2,500. Maybe a 2-footer with double meat and cheese-wiz in Southside Philadelphia...

That's what I did when I was pregnant. I ate everything I wanted & now I can't lose the weight. I thought I would be able to, because I did it w/ my first pregnancy but I was sooooo wrong.

Don't set yourself 100lbs as a goal - set your first target as 10% of your starting weight then when you reach that set the next 10% - otherwise the enormity of the amount to go and slow speed at which you achieve it will overwhelm you.

    Good luck.

You might consider working in kilos (100lbs is only 45-and-a-bit kilos) The loss is slower but the mountain you have to climb is not so steep. (On the other hand, in UK we have stones (1 stone = 14 lbs) which are even better for morale.

Now you have my mouth watering! Thankfully it's snack time and I will enjoy some cheese, cherries and walnuts.

    Best wishes.

I agree with you. It's not always about what you eat. It's just like the purpose of MFP. It doesn't measure what you eat, it measures your caloric intake. If you happen to have a McRib here & there, just make sure you keep it within reason.

However, when you have people such as myself who need to lose so much the best way to go is just to cut out the foolishness all together.
