Hot Yoga + Yoga Socks??

I just signed up for hot power yoga classes, and am wondering if yoga socks will be helpful in preventing me from slipping and sliding all over my map once I start sweating.

For those who have done some form of hot yoga, would you recommend yoga socks? Or are they more of a nuisance? Full toe coverage? Half toe? Brand?

Comments/suggestions would be greatly appreciated! Thank you in advance!

  • kinda pointless imo, just get a 'yogitoes' yoga towel to put down on your mat, it has little grippy nubs on one side so it wont slide at all. theyre great and you dont have socks filled with sweat/funk by the end of class! ;)

This. I sweat like a barn animal and was worried about slipping and sliding all over the damn place, but my sister lent me her yogitoes (sp) towel thingy and I was golden. I LOVED hot yoga. I wish I had the budget to do it more than the free week they gave me for going to one class.

Just an aside: the yogitoes thing is a little pricier than your mat will be.

could always do a work for trade thing where ya clean up and get free yoga(i know someone who also gives free chiropractic adjustments to the instructors in exchange for free yoga), or just do what i did and start dating one of the instructors(+1 free yoga woot!) ;)

There's a new yoga mat made by Aurorae called Synergy that has integrated a microfiber towel with a traditional yoga mat, making it ideally suited for hot yoga or for people who just sweat a lot. It's machine washable and has received very positive reviews on Amazon.com.

Personally I love my yoga socks. I have ones with toes, without toes, and ones that have open toes and heels. It is just a preference.
