Apparently trains one to run a 5K at a decent pace...

Ran last night just to see if I still could and actually ran a stronger run at a faster pace than when i trained for 3 months (at about 240 lbs vs. 220 now) to be able to survive a full 10k.

Strength is very comparable now vs. then but somehow I got better at running without doing it...

Anyway, I thought it was bit odd and I surprised myself.

I ran 6 miles about a month ago, barely did any cardio before and haven't done much more since.

just wanted to see how far I could push myself.

that's kind of what I was doing, but 5K (and I didn't even really run a full 5k) is about all I like to do in a day even when I'm running. Anyway, if I call that "in shape" it kind of makes it demotivating to go thru the motions of doing them if doing weights only keeps me in shape to be able to run one without even being winded.

I ran it at about 8.5 MPH fwiw.

damn, that's good stuff. what strength training are you doing? i found myself in the same place you are at now. at first i started running to lose weight and then it started to get cold and i didn't run outside as much. so i started to do more strength training with very little running on the treadmill. i told my trainer that i wanted to work on my core and lower body. after 3 months with her i decided to run. i used to run a mile about 10 and change, now i run a mile under 9 minutes on the road and i can max out about 9 on the treadmill now with the incline at about 1.5 - 2%.

I do at least 5 sets a week of bench press, squats, deadlifts, pullups, rows, and over head press. I do auxillary work as wanted.

Hard to pin down. I have ****arounditis bigtime, but focus is on the main lifts.
