Sugar Tracking

I just started My fitness pal, do others feel like the sugar tracking could be better? I only had a small bowl of honey chex mix, milk and a banana, and Im already in the red for sugar! That doesnt make much sense to me, I understand Honey Chex has sugar but banana is putting you over? Maybe they should try natural sugar compared to not. Also, what is the healthy sugar amount? There was 10 in a cup of milk, 18 in my cereal, and 8 in banana. So I get I need better breakfast, but my goal is 24 sugar having milk almost reaches that amount should I not count dairy and fruits?

I am asking myself that same question. I just listen to part of an interview on NPR about sugar and am thinking that should be my focus. I will look up the fellow who was interviewed and put the info here. If your daily gram count is 20 something and sugar comes in many hidden forms, we are all in trouble!! I be back soon with the authors name and maybe a link if that is allowed here.0

Ok, I can't repost the interview, it is on the NPR website, Dr. Robert Lustig: Fat chance. It was on Monday jan 7. You can listen to the interview and see what you think.0

well I must have listened to only part of the interview, as I am reading it, the dr. is a bit confusing, for me. but I think further into the interview is the part that talks more about what sugar does to our bodies. More research on my part is to be done.0

Hi to sugar trackers,
Eliminate most sugar from your diet. That means reading labels, for high fructos sugar syrup in foods, extra sugar, honey(natural but sugar). Count 48 grams of real sugar for coffee or tea a day. Your body converts sugars from high carbs. Starches like white potatoes, white breads, anything white you consume, thats why they recommend whole grains.
All syrups are sugars, maple, jams and jellys also.
Most processed foods have added sugars & fats. You can do it.

Consuming sugar raises your blood sugar which in turn causes an insulin response which then lowers your blood sugar and can cause hunger and cravings. If the sugar is consumed with fiber, protein or fats it will digest at a slower rate and not have as severe of an effect. The South Beach plan is based on keeping your blood sugars even throughout the day and in phase 2 (the steady weight loss phase) it allows 1-3 fruits a day (best eaten with protein) with preference to low sugar fruits and two low fat dairy servings, but discourages eating foods with added sugars. Hope that helps.0
