people with IBS

unfortunately i have IBS
foods do irritate my stomach and its a rather embarrassing condition.
generally fruits and veggies do tend to give me an attack, so i can't eat them at work. i'm a sales associate so i cannot get an attack while i'm spending an hour or so with a costumer!

please suggest healthy food, that won't seem to hurt my stomach.

i find it hard to lose weight with this condition cause i'd rather not eat at work (no stomach aches or attacks) then come home and eat everything in sight!

I have the same issue. It started once I had my gallbladder removed a few years back. Feel free to add me as a friend. Nott sure what to do. I have learned what irritates me and try not to eat that when out. I have learned to becareful when eating greasy foods.
  • I actually have Crohns disease w/ IBS so I feel your pain!! I have to avoid most fruit and especially raw vegetables at all costs!!! Depending on what I'm in the mood for I will pack some of these snacks for work:

-Rice cakes (Quaker makes some really good flavors)
    -Nature Valley granola thins
    -Pretzels
    -Popcorn
    -Baked chips
    -Instant oatmeal

I don't know how long you've dealt with IBS but when I have symptoms at work peppermint seems to help calm my stomach a lot so I usually keep peppermint life savers on hand too!

Have you had a scope and an "official-official" diagnosis? My diagnosis came from a general practitioner based on symptoms and no scope and I have VERY Different symptoms. There isn't an easy route for this as fruits and veggies are BEST for me. It's Stress I need to avoid as that will set off an "attack" of horrible cramping and diarrhea. The only other trigger is extensive exercise (I have a hard time running over 20 minutes - or cramping immediately starts - like my intestines have a timer or something). You are NOT alone but I'm sorry - I don't have much to recommend for your symptoms. Wondering (if you had a scope) if for your particular type of IBS/IBD your doctor might have recommendations (like can you do apple sauce but not apples at work).

    Best wishes!

nah, i havent had a scope, i have had a stomach test. i don't know how light, moderate or full my ibs is, but i know i do have it.
i get diarrhea like nobodies business. sometimes it's really painful, lots of burning.
the only thing that doesn't hurt my stomach is carbs usually but sometimes even carbs will do it.
sometimes i won't go all week, then BAM, i can't stop going! and i'm always so terrified one of those BAM moments will happen while i'm in a really inconvenient place.

generally the foods that really hurt my stomach are things like fried food and carbonated drinks. dairy definitely is something that makes me feel like i'm gonna implode.

for work, i usually take a cheese sandwich. 2 pieces of rye bread, lightly buttered and with a couple of slices of cheddar.
it tides me over for now, but i can't live off of a cheese sandwich my whole life. lol

i'm hoping with this new healthy change i'll be able to get it more under control.
i've started taking align and that seems to be helping aswell.

I would say the best thing to try would be cutting everything you KNOW irritates your stomach as a start. For me, cheese/dairy in general is a terrible idea because it can wind up one way or another when it goes through my system, neither are good (you know what I mean). I'm vegan, so I tend to eat a lot more fruits & veggies and I find that the higher amount of fiber helps my stomach a lot. I also try to avoid super processed stuff as things with lots of chemicals/long list of unnatural ingredients do not tend to agree with me [I do have IBS].

I work with customers too, so I know exactly how you feel; you can't always just leave!

Do you have a consistent diet or do you kind of just eat what you feel like? Maybe if you just ate similar things for a while to get your system under control, it would help you know what you should or should not eat if you're not at home, just in case.

    http://cassandraforsythe.com/blog/Complete+FODMAP+List+For+a+Happy+Gut

Check out the website above. FODMAPS are a type of carbohydrates found in certain fruits and vegetables that are not digested by people with IBS. By eliminating these foods from your diet you can decrease the symptoms of IBS.
I suffered from IBS for years before it was diagnosed. After I did the elimination diet, the symptoms disappeared. I slowly reintroduced foods back. It's surprising that foods that I thought were really healthy like watermelon and apples were the biggest offenders!
My doctor never heard of this diet. It was discovered by a dietitian in Australia in 2006 and hasn't really caught on in the states yet.
I am also lactose intolerant and caffeine aggravates the IBS so i gave up milk and caffeine.

I have IBS-D. Low fiber is better for me. Today for lunch I had white bread with tuna salad, (no onions) and Greek yogurt with a lactose enzyme pill. My diet is not perfect, I need to try to get in more veggies, cooked of course, raw veggies cause flare ups.

    2 more things

    1) Regarding your comments above - You state that dairy may you feel horrible but your lunch is bread with CHEESE (cheddar at that - highest fat) and BUTTER. 2 Dairy products. How about a PB sandwich for change? Just a thought.
    2) Medication for spasms helped me emensely! Meds like Levbid.

cheese so much isn't an issue.
milk and icecream are the main things that hurt. milk isn't actually hurting so much anymore now that i've taken align,
    i'll definitely look into leybid.

i find probiotics really help me, but it's almost like i get used to them and they stop being effective.
