Reasonable weight goal loss?

Hi there! I am in need of some advice, tips and such!

I am getting married in exactly 8 months! I am currently about 100 pounds over weight. I feel that it would be unreasonable to think I could lose that in 8 months. But is 80 pounds a reasonable goal? That would be 10 pounds a month.

I also am looking for any meal suggestions and work out plans to best do this. With the extra weight (I am about 250 pounds) my knees hurt and it is tough to do some exercises. I do own an elliptical trainer and have resistance bands and hand weights as well as the Wii fit plus with the stepper. I just am looking for advise on the best type of workouts to lose the kind of weight I need to lose.

As for eating, feel free to check out my last few days. I am just on my third day back with the program. I am focusing on keeping sugars low (cut out as much sugar that isn't natural as possible), higher protein and though my calories say I am allowed 1650, I keep it closer to 1250 the past few days because I have been sick and not working out.

I also would love to add some friends here to help keep me going. I have a few good ones but a lot that don't ever comment. I am the type that needs the encouragement.

Thanks so much everyone!

Michelle

I think the general rule of thumb is 50 pounds or less, aim to lose 1 lb per week. 100+ plus to lose, you can aim to lose 2 per week. However, weight loss is not linear...some weeks you lose, some weeks you don't. You can set any goal you want but your body may not comply. I was pretty rigid with calories and exercise and it still took me almost a year to lose 30 pounds due to a couple plateaus.

Weight loss is mainly about your diet, however exercise is important for all over health. With your knee limitations, do what you can, whether it is walking, elliptical, or what have you. Start off slow and as you lose weight and gain stamina, you can slowly up the amount of time you spend exercising.

Last year I lost 27 pounds in 3 months just by keeping track of everything and exercising between the Wii, the elliptical trainer and walking the dogs. I have heard 2 pounds a week is a good weight loss pace. I am hoping to get below the 200 pound mark by the wedding. More would be a bonus. Thanks for your advise and reply. :) It is helpful :)

This seems sensible to me. With 100 pounds to go you can try for 2 pounds a week. If that is hard for you, cut back to 1.5 pounds and stick to that. Success and consistency is more important than anything else.

After you're within 50 pounds you may want to slow down to a pound a week. But if you exercise with the calorie limits you will look terrific - and be much healthier - for your wedding.

In the past I have had no problem losing 20-30 pounds rather quickly. It is the weight after that which is toughest but mainly because I don't stick with it. Thanks for the advice!
