To Cleanse or Not to Cleanse??

I have done this before, not very fun, but does anyone have any idea if this is a good idea or how often it should be done?

    I think we need more details about what you mean by cleanse, but I'm going to guess it's not required or recommended.

    To cleanse or not to cleanse? That is the question.
    Whether 'tis nobler in the mind to suffer
    The slings and arrows of non-specific toxins
    Or to take arms against a sea of imagined bowel obstructions
    And by opposing, perforate one's colon. To juice; to detox;
    No more; and by a detox to say we end
    The pH and the balance of intestinal flora
    That guts are heir to, 'tis a consummation
    Devoutly to be avoided. To juice; to detox;
    To detox: perchance to puke: aye, there's the rub;
    For in the pangs of indigestion what side-effects may come
    When we go and leave our undies soiled.

    If you are working out, I wouldnt recommend the cleanse because you are burning a lot of calories and you need all the energy food gives you... Plus, so many people do the "DETOX" because they want to lose weight very easy and fast, but guess what??? once you start eating regurlaly yhou are going to gain all those pounds back.

    There's multiple types of cleanse... the liquid cleanse (don't recommend) or a pill based cleanse... which I also don't recommend. I did a "natural" cleanse for the first time 3 months ago.. took multiple pills, ate right and exercised... I was in such pain by day 4 that I couldn't even stand... Toxins are stored in a womans legs; therefore, all the pain is in your legs and/or other areas. On top of the horrible leg pain, I got extremely sick for 5 days while cleansing... that's the whole point of cleansing is to rid your body of toxins and it WILL make you sick. I will NEVER cleanse again!!!!

    Fantastic! The Bard would be proud! And no truer words were said in verse :happy:

    The only cleansing you should do is external in the shower after a workout with a loofah or body-scrub and your favourite shower gel.

    Nooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo.

    Don't do it. Your body has systems that do it naturally:

    - The large intestine
    - The liver
    - The kidneys
    - Fat tissue
    - Muscles and tendons
    - Nose, ears, and eyes
    - Lungs and skin

    The best thing you can do is to feed your body nutrient dense, healthy foods, hydrate your body properly, move a lot and get plenty of rest. That way your systems can properly "cleanse" themselves by working in an optimally supported environment.

    Exactly what I was about to say. That's the only time I've done it. Once, and that was enough! My GI doctor says there is absolutely no need otherwise, and I trust him.

    Fantastic!

    To the OP. "Cleanse" and "Detox" are meaningless words bandied about by modern day snake oil salespeople. Eat a well balanced nutritious diet (lots of fresh fruits & vegetables, lean proteins) stay hydrated and your body (in the absence of some very specific illnesses) looks after the rest. The "cleanse" folks are just trying to separate you from your hard earned cash.

  • I did a cleanse recently. I cleansed my diet of processed foods and felt ever so much better. Still ate good, whole foods, and exercised, had healthy snacks when hungry. I guess it depends on what you intend to do...

    I asked my doctor about it at my physical last year. She said it's a fad and not to do it. She said if I really, wanted to, I could take a weekend whene I don't have to be anywhere and just drink juice and lots of stuff with vitamins and nutrients. However, she said she wouldn't do it and would not recommend it for me.
