Found Motivation from a Stranger

I am fortunate enough to live close enough to my office so I can walk to work. This morning on my walk I stepped out of the way for a lady jogging by pushing a "jogging stroller" and she zoomed by me. A red light stopped her and I caught up to her at the light as we were standing there she said, "Excuse me sir, but you look really good how much weight have you lost? 40lbs 50lbs?" I was shocked and responded with 40lbs but still working at it.

Turns out we walk past each other a few times a week. We have similar schedules she starts work around the time I normally get to the office and she gets off work around the time I am walking home for lunch. She pointed out that she sees me often but never stoped to say, "hi". We talked for a few minutes turns out she manages the trainers at the all womens gym next to my office. One of the things she mentioned is she works with women over 270lbs and has some success but a lot of them give up. She asked me what made me stick with it, all I could say is it was finally something that I wanted and I know there is a difference between "saying" you want it and "wanting" it. It is easy to say "I want to lose weight" but until you "want" it and you are willing to make the changes "tracking calories in vs calories out" and stick with a fitness program that fits you it won't work.

So not only has a stranger noticed my progress she stopped me to tell me about it. On a day when I stepped on the scale 2lbs heavier than last week. I also mentioned to her that I am trying to get to 175 and to which she responed...that might be too thin for you, but if that is your goal get there and then evaulate it yourself.

Oddly I am very motivated today even though the scale is up...

What a great story...its surprising when you find out someone you never spoke to has noticed the changes. When I lost the bulk of my weight this last time around, I had some very awkward conversations with people from my gym who I'd never spoken to in the years that I went there, and people in my office who I didn't remember ever even seeing before...

I'm willing to bet that your "there is a difference between "saying" you want it and "wanting" it" quote is going to make its way into her gym to the people she works with...and YOU will be the motivator for them!

Way to go my friend!! :drinker:

It's great not only that someone noticed the changes in you but that they went out of their way to tell you about it. Well done on your loss.

That's pretty awesome, it's incredible when people you know notice the loss, but someone you haven't even talked to, that must be an awesome feeling.
