I don't really have a recipe but I use very lean ground beef..which is actually lower in cals/fat than most ground turkey..brown it (high heat..make it brown..thats where the flavor comes from..maybe add a bit of light olive oil to help it along)..then add your favorite jarred marinara..or homemade marinara is easy too. It freezes super well.

I throw in a bay leaf..some crushed red pepper flakes if I want it a little spicy..and let it simmer for a while. Add some fresh chopped basil at the end to perk it up even more..combine with whole grain spaghetti pasta..and you're good to go.

You could just use slim pasta instead & then go for it with the meat sauce.

Spaghetti sauce is already very low cal. (about 90 for a cup), it's the meat that adds up. Ground beef is about 190 cals for 3 oz., still not bad. Use the food database to find the type and amount of meat that fits with your plan.

Hubby is making spaghetti tomorrow so this is a subject that I have been researching. Hubby is a non-dieter so my strategy will be to make meatballs instead of crumbled ground beef. That way I can control the calories by the weight and number of the meatballs. I am also going to boil up some shredded cabbage for a noodle substitute. I am zig zagging cals/protein/carbs so I will alternate noodles and cabbage.

I would have never thought to use cabbage as a noodle substitute. I tried spaghetti squash, didn't care for it because of the consistency. Will try this tonight though and see how it goes....thank you for the suggestion!
