Lifting and hunger

I started lifting Monday and I notice that my appetite is hard to control. Do I listen to my body and eat more or will this eventually go away? Before I started I was struggling to make it to 1200 cals per day!

You may want to up your calories since you are burning calories with lifting.
I always try to eat at least half of my exercise calories.

I'm not sure of your BMR, but 1,200 is pretty low as it is.

If you can get some carbs and protein within 20-30 minutes of finishing your workout would be ideal, and typically go straight into replenishing the muscles, not your fat stores. you might want to check your macros though against your daily cals, ive found it hard to get a realistic estimate of how much energy is burned lifting weights.

    I will try this! Thanks!
  • 1200 is def low for a caloric intake when lifting!! You want to make sure you're getting plenty of protein. You're body is breaking down and manufacturing muscle. Plus, the protein will help you to feel fuller longer. I normally make a protein shake within 30 minutes of my work out!

Yes eat! I actually like feeling an increased hunger after working out, it makes me feel like my body is actually working!

as an anecdote for you, when i started lifting, i added 1200-1400 calories per day and stayed the same weight while losing fat and gaining muscle for a few months. after that I had to reduce cals some to lose the remaining fat.
