home workout vs the gym

Is it just personal preference? I have so many DVD workouts and the Wii Fit that are collecting dust. Should I pull them out and just start doing them before investing in a gym membership or the local all womens circut training facility??

Whatever will keep you motivated is my opinion. I did mostly all home DVDs the month of December. Now I am taking new classes at the gym because I am tired of the DVDs.

It really depends on what motivates you and what you like to do. If you can be self motivated and do the workouts on your own.. why not use what you have. If you like the atmosphere of the gym, or need a trainer, do that. What do you like to do? Can you self motivate? If you join the gym, will you go?

I like the videos, my Wii and to run and bike outside, but I was a gym member for a long time. I definetaly feel more motivated now, even though I do not go to the gym.

Good luck on finding your niche.

I think personal preference. If I have to go to a gym to workout... I'd never get there! LOL My basement exercise room is SO much more convenient, but we are fortunate to have the room and the equipement, along with a TV/DVD player!

I never go to the gym, and I've never had trouble losing weight.

Walking and running outside is FREE.

A DVD is a once-off payment and then it is yours FOREVER.

I got a mini trampoline & some dumb bells as gifts (after asking for them!)

Gyms are unnecessary, unless you enjoy them & they motivate you, in which case they are essential

Whatever gets a person off their *kitten* CONSISTENTLY - that is what is right for them.

whatever works for you. I went through a period of doing DVD workouts, and I got more toned, but didn't lose fat because of the ones I was doing. So switch it up, do toning, aerobic, all sorts, and maybe interchange with the gym so you don't get bored of either and can keep a constant change in your exericse so you don't get stuck.

I get more motivated at the gym. If I work out at home I'll just sit on the couch if I feel tired. It's all about what motivates you personally. Try both and pick one, or alternate.

Pretty much the same here. Every time I've joined a gym I stop going. I found running outdoors works best for me and it's free! I will say I do go to boot camp from time to time(although I'm on a 3 month hiatus). It started as an outdoor boo camp, moved indoors - which I wasn't fond of - and now it's back outside.

If I lived in a colder climate I'd probably have to do a gym for running, but you gotta love the CA weather.

I enjoy going to the gym! I think it puts my body in the right mind set. At home there are too many distractions (laundry, kids, tv). One myth about gym memberships that scared me before I joined were the costs! I always heard that they were really expensive & come with a long term commitment. Once I actually did my own research I found that they were very reasonably priced! I pay $15/mo for a great gym & that includes all classes. Good luck on your mission towards a better you!! If you are looking for an accountability partner add me!
