READ YOUR LABELS! Know what you're eating!

Even though I know better, do you know to this day that if something is labeled "healthy", I automatically pick it up and think "woo hoo! Found a great new food!"......until I read the ingredient list on the label? More times than not, I end up putting back the so-called "food" or even "frankenfood", dejected, and yet again wondering how the FDA gets away with all of it. I've even lost faith in a lifelong brand, Kellogg's, for the big marketing scheme that is called the "Special K Diet". Way to go, Kellogg's, for selling us a lie as big as Hydroxycut! Read the labels on the Special K bars and drinks, Atkins bars, even some expensive shake mixes like Body by Vi shakes and GNC Total Lean Shakes.
Foods marketed to both children and "dieters" are completely loaded with crap. And we wonder why we are faced with an obesity epidemic and our children are facing obesity, and all kinds of methamphetamines such as Ritalin and Adderell. We hype them up and then drug them up. And the FDA approves this, as well as your child's pediatrician! Stop the madness and copy and paste this article to read!!

Some serving sizes have shocked me. Some meals are packaged to look like an individual serving so the stats don't look too bad but it turns out that little package is labelled as 2 servings. I had this happen with a single bowl of pad thai. :noway: :noway:0

Haha, yeah! It's a little ridiculous when something is packaged in a way that makes it difficult/impossible to separate multiple portions!0 -
That too! I think Amy's Organics does that with their Cheese Enchiladas. When you read the label, the facts are for one enchilada. That's about the only complaint I have for their enchiladas though lol0

I completely agree. When I first started this journey I went out and bought a bunch of Smart Ones entrees. The front of the package says they're something like 250 calories for the chicken taco thingies. However when you look at the back there are 2 servings per box, and there is no easy way to fix just one serving. Not to mention when you read the ingredients they're full of sodium, preservatives, and other crap. I will occasionally grab one in a pinch, but it's definitely not something that anyone should be eating on a regular basis whether they are dieting or not! I'm not a perfectly clean eater by any stretch, but I think a lot of so-called "diet" foods do way more harm than good. The problem is that most of society doesn't know how (or doesn't have time) to cook from scratch anymore, so these things are huge sellers.0 -
