Input from adults please?

Just a quick question, do you log sex as an exercise?
It sounds silly but it can be a lot of work and I feel like it should count towards calories burned. If you do log sex, what do you put it under and how can I figure up calories burned? I tried doing it another site but it was only 120 calories, that doesn't seem right.

Btw, sorry if this isn't a good place for this question. Its my third post and I'm still new to the forum. :)

Its really depends how hard you work. It could be ten calories or it could be 200 calories

Well, depending on the duration and how much effort was put into the act you can end up burning as many calories during sex as you would if you ran 5 miles.. so look up how many calories you'd burn in a 5 mile run at your current running pace and that should be a good estimate.

This is by no mean 100% accurate, but from what I've heard and been told it's a good estimate.
  • You could wear a heart rate monitor ;-)

Seriously though, I would look at it as a bonus and not over think it!

I don't. It is too hard to judge the calories burned and I don't want to be distracted by keeping track of time. I guess you could wear a heart rate monitor and go off of that lol! Sex to me is about being with my handsome man and having fun!! :blushing:

why would you log it? It's work? lol Unless you do it for a living, not sure why you'd feel the need to log it. But hey, we all log different things.

I was just thinking about it one night. I mean if I walk around the mall for an hour I log it, so why not sex? Haha.

That's over 600 calories for an hour! I definitely don't work that hard.

Oh my gosh, its a little over 400 calories burned. I calculated wrong. That seems more accurate. :blushing:

Oh I can't wait to hear what comes of this question (if you'll excuse the pun)!

I think it might be hard to calculate calories burned during sex accurately for a number of good reasons, not the least of which is the need to attach O2 uptake monitors, heart rate monitors etc, without breaking the mood.

I figure you would have to calculate based on quite a few variables:
    - Those of us who have had forty some odd years to perfect our technique might use less calories.
    - Married? I understand illicit sex is more stressful than the sanctioned kind and might use more calories.
    - If married, for how long? And are there small children? Best of intentions aside there comes a time when some of the bionk goes out of your boink, if you know what I mean.
    - Top or bottom? If bottom how much does the top weigh?,
    - Who's doing the most work (is either of you just lying back and thinking of England)?
    - Kink? And if so, is it athletic kink? Any chandeliers involved?
    - If in a car, particularly a small car, I would think extra calories would be required for logistics.
    - If whipped cream, chocolate sauce or other delight were involved an adjstment would be required...... (And just how many calories are there in edible panties?)

And so it goes. Perhaps we should consider sex the reward and not part of the diet......

i wouldn't think too much about the calories burned during sexual activity... i mean, you could wear an HRM, and that would be hilarious; "honey, we need to work harder, i'm not in the ZONE!" or "baby, we'd better slow it down, my HR is waaaay high!"

Here's an article that covers it...

So, by my calculations that's typically 5 kCals for foreplay and another 10 for actual sex.

To quote flight of the concords "Business Time":

    Making love
    Making love for
    Making love for two
    Making love for two minutes
When it's with me girl you only need two minutes
    Because I'm so intense

If you haven't heard this song where have you been?

Bahaha love that song. Thanks for cheering me up.

To answer the OP's question, no, nomatter how intense it is. I don't want to think of it as exercise and ruin the pleasure by trying to make sure I burn some calories. And since I shouldn't be focused on how hard I'm working, I will have a difficult time accurately estimating the correct amount. Unless you are trying to gain weight and need to eat back absolutely everything you burn, then why log it? For that matter, why log walking around the mall? Just consider it bonus calories. Using everything as an excuse to eat more is not going to lead to weight loss.

Just think of it is an extra bonus to help create a caloric deficit. (= Don't count it, just enjoy it.

It might even be an incentive to work harder, you know, to burn more calories.

If you genuinely walk and get jiggy on a regular basis, set your activity level to lightly active*, stop kidding yourself you get an appreciable burn from things that aren't exercise and do a proper workout, or you'll be back on the forums in two weeks complaining "I've stayed below my calories every day and I haven't lost a pound."

    * Most average relationships will be back down to sedentary within a year anyway!

    No.

Unless you're a porn star or something.

Then change your activity level to "very active" if ya gets me drift.

I definitely don't have sex enough anymore to bother thinking about it HA. But in all seriousness, I've thought about it before but then thought "who am I kidding? I don't want to ruin my sex by worrying about how many calories I'm burning!" My diet and health habits are a concern of mine, sure, but at least personally I am not about to let that consume everything I do. Gotta just live sometimes, yknow? That's how I see it anyway.

But on a side note I've seen people log it as belly dancing before. haha

And some of us are married with 4 young children - in terms of sex it's kinda like being single really!!!!!:drinker:

Considering that it takes me at least 10 minutes of full-out effort at the highest resistance on my elliptical to burn 120 calories, I dount that you're burning more than that having sex.

    Be realistic.

    No, I don't log sex.

No. Unless you just started, then it's not increasing you daily activity. ONLY count those exercises that are new to your routine. Lots of people who need to lose a few pounds have sex every day. If sex burned as many calories as we all wish it did, we'd all be much thinner and having way more of it.

I would log sex, but not work. My job is sitting at a desk, reading and typing on the computer. There's nothing to log there.

30 seconds of a date with my right hand in the restroom, while fearing my family sitting outside might hear me is the fastest way for me to get my heart rate up. Heck yeah i log that ish!
