Weight loss and study

It has been easy to get my exercise up to a frequent level (ie 3-4, sometimes 5 times a week) in the last few months as my last course for my degree finished in October, so I have been an exercise fanatic for a while. However, during October and September, I didnt work out at all as I was finishing my revision and exams and I hated it.
Study officially starts again on 2nd Feb, but I will have all the materials through before then and as soon as I get them, I need to start studying again.
I wont have the time to work out as much as I do and Im terrified what its going to do to my weight loss success (of which I have none yet!!)
I dont even know why Im posting - I am supposed to study 16 hours a week, I work 32.5, I have 3 kids, a dog and a boyfriend - am I going to have to choose between being slim or graduating???
Surely not....

Have you thought about things like possibly walking the kids to school? Not sure if this is an option where you live. Or when you go to work - park a reasonable distance away so you fit in some walking then? Or taking a walk during lunch? There are lots of ways to fit in incidental exercise. Another good one is whilst you are doing your Uni readings, get on an exercise bike if you have one. Or any other equipment where you are moving and can wedge a book. You shouldn't have to make a choice between slim and degree.
I am also a mum of 3 kids, but am on the other side to you, I teach all day. I get a fair amount of incidental exercise walking around the school and classroom. In winter I have the option of walking to work - yay small towns.
I certainly hear you it's not easy as a mum who studies and works. Another idea, what about doing some sort of exercise whilst preparing dinner? Jogging on the spot, start jumps??????
Also if you're a video workout person, what about doing it when the kids are in bed? I often need to resort to exercise at stupid o'clock because of the kids and the heat0 -
Heya,
You don't have to choose between the two!
If you cut your calories to lose a pound a week you can; just because you're doing a degre you don't have to eat more.
I too am doing a degree, with a long distance bf, work, im on a committee, and doing extra voluntary stuff to try and get on a postgrad course.
I do walk an hour a day, but also try and put aside 3 hours a week for exercise. If I am free I do it; if not then unfortunately Im not.
Its not the sort of thing you can look at in advance and be frightened of because when you look at the bigger picture it seems like a lot, but when you get there you will hopefully find even the smallest slots to do a half hour jog/cycle whatever it is you choose. And as already mentioned, you probably do more than you think with simply being so busy!
Good luck; try and work with what you've got and take each day as it comes0 -
Unfortunately, I leave for work at 8am and I start work at 8.05, 8 is the earliest my childminder can have my son and it takes 4 mins to drive so walking isnt an option. I do walk home sometimes as I car share with my bf. My big kids are teenagers so there is no need to walk them to school!
I do walk at lunch, as I am a trainee teacher so teach all day and do playground duty all lunch so thats good (plus I get paid woo!)
I do workout videos when I can, but I dont want to do them when the bf is home but I try and do a 20 min one after work.
I think I will just have to balance each night with study or exercise. Or a bit of both each night rather than a whole eve dedicated to one like I do at the moment.
Im not making excuses, believe me, I intend to fit in as much exercise as I possibly can, when and whereever I can.
On graduation day, I want to be hot!!!0
