polar HRM question

so this morning i went for an hour run using my Polar FT4 (in pink of course ), and it said i burned 605 calories. i was running for most of the time, with occasional walking breaks here and there to catch my breath since i'm not the most fit person in the world (obviously). i know HRM's are supposed to be the most accurate in calculating calories burned during a workout but does that seem a little high or is it just me? don't get me wrong, i was totally pumped to see the number finally reach over 600, which makes this my best burn during a run! just wanted to double check everything! thanks! :flowerforyou:

If it's set properly for your height, weight, and gender, then yes, that's pretty accurate. Not perfect of course, but the best estimate we have easily available. That does include your BMR though, so if you wanted to be even more accurate, you would subtract out your BMR. For me, that's around 65 calories per hour.0

I also subtract out BMR, and on top of that, usually about 15% of the total as a cushion for error--but that's just to make sure I don't eat back more than I burned!0
