I've been lifiting via an exercise DVD. Doing heavy/fewer reps. Got a new DVD to change it up a bit. Jari Love get exteremly ripped hardcore 1000. Did it for the first time on Monday. She does many many reps with less weight. Well today I can barely walk. Before with the heavy less reps i wasn't even that sore. But I was led to believe the heavy weights were best. I'm a 47 year old woman. 5'3 170ish pounds.
So what is best? And why are my quads and shoulders so sore if im lifting less weight than before? I hope this isn't a dumb question.
Thanx

Not a dumb question at all. Using light weights with more reps is a way to really tone and sculpt, and it will increase muscle endurance overall. its kind of like if you only ever sprinted and you can do that well, but then went on a long distance run, you would feel it because you're used to doing the sprints and going and stopping. Heavy weight and fewer reps is more like sprinting in the sense that it builds strength and power and adds a little bit of size to the muscles.0

There is no such thing as toning and sculpting muscle. There is making it bigger, making it smaller, and increasing or decreasing the amount of fat covering it up.
You were sore because you did something new. Soreness or lack of is not a good indicator of a workout that will or will not produce results.0
