Every time I eat raw fruit and raw veggies, I feel HORRIBLE. I get extremely gassy and bloated. Any thoughts as to why this happens?

All the extra fiber, I've heard.0

Some people are more sensitive take something like beano or pro-biotics and drink more water.0

Yeah, because that makes sense....0 -
go to your store....Walmart, CVS..etc..and they will tell you medicine that will stop raw fruits and vegetable....and will make you feel better....0

Excess fiber does this and also certain fruits and vegetables are naturally gassy (broccoli for instance, super gassy).0

Any fruits/veggies I should stick to/avoid to prevent this feeling? I'm unfortunately allergic to bananas and all melons.0 -

Beets, carrots, spinach, kale, various berries (probably the best types of fruit). I would also suggest eating various nuts as well for your healthy fats and the protein.
Some more fruits: apples (there are sooooooooooo many kinds), cherries, kiwi's and if you have an exotic market nearby, try some passion fruit and starfruits.
There are so many! :P0 -

Actually it does. It's probably the fiber that your body just isn't used to. You'll get used to it if you value your health.0 -
Then why not cook them?0

it is because you aren't used to eating them. Once you adjust it won't do that to you anymore. When my husband and I first went vegan we got really gassy as well, but it subsided after a few weeks0

I almost always do, but it'd be nice not to have to do that every time.0 -
If you recently started to incorporate more in to your diet it might take a little getting used to. As you eat more fruit and vegetable more frequently it most likely go away....0

That actually does make sense. Any dietary change freaks your body out. Fruits and vegetables have a lot of natural sugars and fiber in them. Since you aren't use to eating them, your body will initially produce an excess of gas and make life REALLY uncomfortable for a few days. As someone else suggested, take beano or some other form of gas relief to help ease the discomfort early on. Your body will get use to it and you will ultimately feel better.0 -
def sounds like you are not getting the fiber you need.0

THIS
Either stay the course and give your body time to adjust, or eliminate fruits and veggies;
stick to only processed foods....:noway:0 -

cauliflower is the worst for me but i love it! you should not eat them by themselves if you can help it. have them with other food and they likely wont bother you as much.0 -

Ditto.
Your body takes time to adjust to that much fiber. You either ramp up your fiber or give yourself time to adjust to the fiber that you're now taking in.0 -
I suppose I'll just keep at it until the gas goes away. I have to say, it's rather unpleasant. =(0

OIC, have you tried Beano or taking a daily probiotic?0 -

it take time for your stomach to adapt to a diet change. Eat slowly, chew your food very well and eat raw veg in smaller amounts until your system is working. Steaming your vegetables or flash boiling them is a great way to retain nutrients and helps them digest better.0

What is the most important discovery in the history of mankind? Fire.
There's a reason.

I'm not saying never eat raw veggies, I'm just saying raw vs cooked isn't that big of a deal.0 -

I took a lot of gas-x yesterday that didn't seem to help0 -

It does make sense. Your body isn't used to all the fiber. Eat the fruit before you eat your meal. I'm a vegan (no animal products at all), have been for two years, and some veggies still make me gassy due to all the fiber. If you're not used to it, it could really jack your system. Don't let that stop you though. They are the best thing for you.0 -
You might find it's only a small selection of raw fruits and vegetables that's upsetting you. Perhaps try eliminating them all and then introducing them one at a time over a period of time. Your body should let you know when you get to the one that doesn't agree with you.0
-
agreed. if you arent feeling well, it means that you arent getting enough fiber in your diet and the increase in fiber is making you feel gassy. up your fiber intake, I suggest having the fiber count alongside your calories an macros on myfitnesspal to make sure you reach your daily intake. Maybe even invest in a fiber drink like metamucil or something similar. (fiber makes you less hungry and boosts your metabolism). Try to stick it out, the gas and bloating will eventually go away0
