Healthy food and water. You body knows what to do.

What exactly do you think a 'detox' is or a 'detox' does? Why do you think your organs of excretion are incapable of 'detoxing' you? Have you seen a doctor about that?

Regular exercise plus balanced wholefood diet will not just help, it is far more effective for mental wellbeing and energy than any fad/ crash diet/ famine/ cleanse/ detox/ nutrient deficient diet anyone could come up with. Yes I slipped famine in there, body can't tell the difference. Any detox that has any 'beneficial' effect at all will be down to: stopping eating rubbish, laxatives or adrenaline kicking in because your blood sugar dropped too low. Of course you could get dehydrated, dizzy or faint, electrolyte imbalance or constipation.

I agree with the two ^^ up there.
  • commercial "detox" programs and products are a sham and money grab. don't waste your money, they are not based on any reliable or proven science. eat clean foods, avoid processed as much as you happily can, cook from scratch as much as you can, and stay hydrated, your body will do what it needs to do.

I have done the Advocare Cleanse, Its promoted use is for health benefits. Its a metabolic cleanse which means you still eat while using it. It comes with 10 days worth of fiber drinks and probiotics and other vitamins. It was really nasty but it did "get things moving". I did not lose any weight while on it but i did feel better afterwords, not so bloated.

For the most part, all the hype about 'cleansing' and 'detoxing' are pseudo-science at best. Barring any medical conditions, your digestive system and kidneys do a perfectly fine job of ridding your body of the things it doesn't need.

With that said, sometimes a very structured eating plan for a few days is valuable as a 'jump-start' to a healthier way. Nevermind any purported detox or cleanse benefits. Use them to become mindful again about what you are putting in your body and get used to what healthy foods taste like without all of the added sugar, salt, and flavor enhancers.

I just finished Dr. Oz's 3-day detox program. It's 4 'smoothies' per day, made mostly from fruits and vegetables. I have mixed feelings on Dr. Oz, but this plan appealed to me because it includes around 1400 calories per day (no starving yourself) and used non-processed or minimally processed ingredients. I even already had about half of what I needed in my house!

I am no longer craving diet sodas, candy, pizza, $5 fancy coffee drinks loaded with sugar, mac 'n cheese, or ice cream. I just ate my first post-detox meal of a sweet potato and kale hash with eggs. It was delicious and I could really taste the flavors of all of the ingredients!

You can find the plan here:
    http://www.doctoroz.com/videos/dr-ozs-3-day-detox-cleanse-one-sheet

Just make sure if you do this plan that you have a good blender and blend the cr&p out of the drinks, especially the lunch one. That green drink is not for the faint of heart...I was glad I only had to drink it three times!

Good luck! And don't let people's negative comments get you down!

Read what you just wrote. If you know exercise and a better diet will help, then just do it. There is no credible scientific evidence that backs up the claims of detoxes. No toxins will magically leave your body because you drank a juice or took a pill.

Listen to your instincts and actually exercise and change your diet. It has been proven to work!

Stop putting crap in your body. Really that's all the pre-made detox and cleanse products do. They just give you something else to put in there in the meantime. But they all take several days to work, and if you eat whole healthy foods for several days your body will detox itself.
  • Just came to say what everyone else already said: healthy foods, water, and regular exercise. That's the best way to "detox".

  • Juicing!!! I just did a 3 day jucing fast and I feel SO much better. It can get pricey but I loved it! And some juices actually taste good!
We bought a juicer from walmart for about 40 dollars. We spent about $5 a person a day for 3-4 juices. We still juice for breakfast and lunch. You should watch Fat, Sick & Nearly Dead. It's a great motivator. My favorite juices are cucumber, apple, kale, spinach and lemon.
