Accurate Scales?

No scale is 100% accurate (except maybe the doctors office one).

Where is the scale located? Does it get moved/kicked/bumped? Is it on a flat, hard, level floor or on an uneven one or carpet? Have you replaced the battery with a new one lately? Have you tested the scale to see if it is accurate?

My scale isn't 100% accurate.. I know that by testing it. Not many scales are. They are just used as a guide.

It is on a flat, hard surface (my bathroom) and I do not move it and it does not get bumped. It has done this ever since I bought it and I paid about $30 for it at Target. I haven't really tested it to see if it's accurate but I sure will. I had a balance scale (somewhat smaller than the one in my doctor's office) that I had to give away when I downsized my living arrangements. I sure wish I had it back!

Is the floor level? Test that and see... even a bit off and the scale can read weird.

Check the feet of the scale and clean them. Mine had a bunch of stuff collected on the feet of the scale which caused it to weird wrong. Try leaving the scale somewhere other than the bathroom. My last scale wouldn't read properly in the bathroom since it was exposed to water frequently when it got spilled on the floor or the steam from the shower.

Test it with a hand weight or something of a known weight and see what it says.

Buy a new battery and put that in if it's still reading wrong with a test. Taking the battery out and putting it right back in will do nothing if the battery is low in power causing the scale to read wrong.

My scale was $17 ... works perfectly fine. Not 100% accurate but it is just a tool to gauge your progress.

are you taking multiple measurements or is it going up and down before it settles on a single number?

(and - not even doctor's scales are "100%" accurate. All measurements of any type have error.)
