I’ve been up and down with my weight my whole life and pretty much accepted that I would always be overweight. I’ve started and stopped diets for a long as I can remember with no lasting results. But hey, I have a husband who loves me so it’s not that bad, right? Wrong.

I had a doctor appointment last December and wanted to cry when I saw the number on the scale. I’ve never in my life been over 200 pounds. To make matters worse, my doctor told me that if I got pregnant weighing what I did, (my husband and are planning to get pregnant at the beginning of 2011) I would have a much higher risk of gestational diabetes, hypertension, preeclampsia and a whole list of things I don’t want to deal with. I cried for two days.

That New Years I made the decision that by the time December 2010 came around there would be 50 pounds less of me. A healthy baby and pregnancy is so far the only thing that has been able to help me stick with this. Today I’m wearing a pair of jeans that I couldn’t zip up at Christmas – and they’re a little loose on me!!!! My husband is wonderful and is very supportive of my goals. He doesn’t complain when I make healthy modifications to my cooking, walks 2 miles with me almost every night after dinner and cheers me on while I let Jillian Michaels kick my butt. Most importantly, he always makes sure that I know he loves me regardless of what the scale says. But he is thin and has never had a problem with his weight, so he can’t completely understand what I’m going through. I’m glad I’ve found a site to connect me with others who are dealing with the same things I am.

I welcome any suggestions you may have!!!

Welcome, you sound like your doing well and this site will be helpful. The tools to help you lose weight plus the support group here is awesome.
  • Welcome Ron! This will be a very exciting journey for you and now, instead of just having your husband's support (which I am sure is more than sufficient), You will have hundreds of people cheering for you :) Hope you reach your goal and have a happy pregnancy in the future ;)
