Sugar -24 - Are you serious?

All,
My food goals for sugar defaults to 24. I can barely eat breakfast and not surpass the 24. Between the sugar in low fat milk (that I have with my latte and cereal (12 in one cup) and fairly low sugar cereal (10) , I am almost over for th day. Is this realistic? What is everyone else doing to lower their sugar and should I really be more concerned with fat. My goal is 10lbs loss.
