Hey - before this thread turns too ridiculous.....
It doesn't look like herpes at all to me. But, I would spend a few more dollars and just see a dermatologist! Don't wait for the whole insurance referral stuff......stuff get proactive! Besides, an office visit charge won't break your bank. In the meantime, do use the cream your GP suggested, it can't hurt.
Make sure your diet is clean and you are living healthfully. Best!0 -
Everyone is telling you to go see a doctor.....what they should have said was see a dermatologist.....they are the only ones who can give you the answer you seek. Good luck.
A good doctor would refer her to a dermatologist. Many insurances would expect a referral prior to paying for treatment from a specialist. I know mine would.0 -
What you described sounds like something I've had and still deal with. If it's the same as mine, it has a name that sounds like, but probably is spelled differently, to tinnea. It is a fungus and it is common. It usually shows up in the creases of skin where you're sweaty. If that is what it is, you could get a perscription, but you could also use an anti-fungal cream like those for athlete's foot.0

It looks like it could be an allergic rash or eczema. If you wear necklaces often it could most likely be an allergy, if you don't and it's truly random I would think eczema.0

sounds exactly like shingles0

Hi yah try camomile lotion or zertop pills that you can buy in a chemist for allergies good luck0

No, but it's like 20 degrees here, so I really doubt it is heat rash. But then again, I have no idea what it is. lol. Thank you for the thoughts. I will bring this all up to a (hopefully new) doctor. lol0 -
Don't worry, guys-- I'm not coming here as an alternative to seeing a doctor. I appreciate the thoughtful responses. I'm going to have to beg my PCP for a referral to a dermatologist. Blah. I hate insurance sometimes.
If you have to beg your doctor for a referral to another doctor I would be switching Doctors.
You shouldn't have to beg him/her to go see a dermatologist. They are the doctor who will know exactly what it is.0 -
actually i was gonna say something along the same lines... use the cream if no better in a week you could try an anti-fungal or a benadryl cream. give it a week then call the dr back and get something else or tell them you need a referral0

You said you're worried about it, then say it's no biggy because your doctor feels that way....My conclusion: Neck herpes.
LOL-- I hope it's not neck herpes.
It's more curiosity than anything. I know weight loss can trigger toxin releases, so I thought maybe it had something to do with that.
Also, getting another doctor is a huge pain in the butt-- I have an HMO that requires me to visit a PCP for a referral. Getting him to refer me could be like pulling teeth. Not saying I wouldn't do it-- just came here to see if anyone else had had anything similar.
I agree....Google the image of herpes virus on the neck.I get a flare up on occasion.....as a cold sore on the side of my nose.It is not fun or pretty .Valtrex when prescribed by your doctor works well if you take it as soon as you feel the tingling(before the rash actually appears)
I am not a doctor however.....get that referral.0 -
well if its fungal and the hydrocortozone isnt working, it doesnt really look like ringworm but an athletes foot cream wouldnt help/hurt it if it wasnt fungal from using dirty gym equipment/towels.0

I agree. I'm going to try an anti-fungal cream (oooh...chest fungus. sexay! lol) as hydrocortisone hasn't done anything. If it doesn't help in a few days, I'll call and demand a referral.0 -

I think you may be on to something here. gym equipment is sometimes really nasty. maybe not neck herpes but Argyria maybe?0 -
Don't dismiss heat rash just because it's cold. You could be curled up in a certain way at night, under the covers, that causes the skin to be warm in that crease. That's just my thought since you say it always presents in the morning.0

doesnt really matter if its overcast of not if you have really fair skin, i live in the sf bay area and will still get sunburnt when its foggy. btw if you are on a birth control pill it can also make your skin freakishly sensitive to sunlight as well and you can get a rash like that very easily.0 -

Oh yeah-- I forgot to mention that I drink 7 bottles of colloidal silver every day. lol0 -
psoriasis or eczema. It looks like a form of psoriasis though, around the neck line is a common place where it can start. you could of developed it during a season change. did you try a dermatologist?0

I wouldn't wait I would get a referral to a dermatologist and get it checked out. It very well could be herpes zoster or shingles but those are usually painful. Might be a pain but you never want to play around with your health.0

Your description sounded like hives/allergic reaction, but the pic looks more like a fungal thing. Since your doc wasn't too concerned, you could experiment with some over the counter options. If an anti-fungal works, then you'll know that's the problem. If nothing is helping, though, I'd skip right to a dermatologist. An office visit with a dermatologist may be cheaper than with a GP if you pay cash. Mine was.0
