Net Carbs?

I read somewhere that NET carbs are what should be recorded. It sure sounds nice to get to record a few less carbs.

My low carb wraps say they have 5 Net Carbs, but their total listed carbs are 11. Should I bother re-inputting the info?

Total carbs are fiber + sugar. Net carbs are fiber only. Be cautious of net carb database entries. Many of them are incorrect.

If you want to get net carbs you can put the whole amount in, and at the end of the day minus your fibre from the total carbs and that is your net, which you can put into the notes if that's easier. Some things have net carbs in MPF while others don't. I usually just go off the whole carb figure

So, just stick with the 11 carbs?

Do you know why Some people are saying to record net carbs and not total?

The Atkins diet works off net carbs where you aim to eat in induction about 20g net/day. I don't really agree with it though as the food isn't real - The shakes and bars have alot of articifical sweetners and fibre to bring the net down.

Personally I aim to eat real food and stay around 100g carbs/day with aout 20g fibre so my net would be 80

Fiber is considered a carbohydrate. However, it is not absorbed by the body, and therefore does not count towards your carb count. Subtract the number of carbs from the total number of carbs, and that is your net carbs.
  • Total Carbs-Fiber=net carbs

So say your daily total on your tracker was 150 carbs and you got 20 grams of fiber. 150-20=130 net carbs

On Atkins they also minus "sugar alcohols" from the total carb count as well. So your equation would look like this:

Carbs - Fiber - Sugar Alcohols = Net Carbs.

Like one of the other posts on here though I am skepticle of the "fake Atkins foods" that contain a bunch of artificial sweeteners and load in the fibre to bring down the carb count.

Not to say I don't partake in one of the bars or shakes when on the go but I find I lose more when I stay away from them.
