Hi, i was wondering has anyone been to thailand?
i need tips on how to eat healthy!
i leave on tuesday.
im going away with my dad, and he HATES that i eat healthy, he thinks that i want to be skinny (i was a little underweight a while back) and he thinks i wanna be like that now, i dont! and he just doesnt understand that i just want to be healthy now.
ordering foods at resturants will be hard because of the different languages aswell.
plus which breakfast foods do they have?

Sorry I do't know about the food in Thailand but just wanted to say take the opportunity whilst you are there to speak to your dad in a calm and adult way. When you are happy and relaxed just bring the subject up with him. He is obviously worried about you and you can take the oportunity to reassure him in a calm and adult way. Hope you can make him see where you are coming from.0

Thailand isn't know for their healthy food but it's better than a lot of Asia. A lot of the street food is fried/battered whilst stuff in restaurants, if Thai, is cooked in oil (curry for example). And the also eat a lot of rice. Thailand is a tourist hotspot though and many places cater to western tastes, that will be your best bet. The supermarkets are pretty good too. As for the language thing, most people will speak a bit of English, especially in the tourist places and restaurants. I recommend The Deck, Monsoon and Cabbages and Condoms (all in Bangkok) for good, authentic Thai food.0

I travel a lot to southeast Asia and eating there can be somewhat of a challenge. Lots of the dishes are wok fried with oil so that won't be working in your favor. Rice is basically a staple in all their dishes. I tried to stick with anything grilled or steamed and that generally worked well for me. Rice isn't a bad thing. They key to any sort of eating is moderation. Have a great time and enjoy the culture.0

Thai cuisine is great if u know what u are eating and not go over board with it. And I don't see a lot of fat people in Thailand, even though they eat lots of rice. Couple of great food must try, and they are usually not super high in calories, unlike steak and fries, check them out in the food list.
1. Phad Thai - basically rice noodles stir fried with some vegetables, some may come with seafood. They will add chilli, sugar and peanuts, well 1 plate is about 400-500 cal. That will be a lunch.
2. Curries, - green, red, mamasan etc. goes well with rice. They don't come in big portion anyway. Comes in chicken, beef, and the meat are usually lean meat.
3. Steam fish in lemon or Tom yum, sweet, sour taste.
4. Tom Yum soup - usually seafood or just prawns. Sweet, sour goes well with rice too.
5. Vegetables, lots of different types, eg Kaile, Chap chai ( means mixed vegetables - usually cabbage, Chye sim, cauliflower etc)
Don't forget to try thei desserts - mango with rice pudding, red ruby in coconut, fried banana fritter, Yum! Share with your dad!
As the food are sour, spicy hot, u don't really eat a lot, and they aid digestion. and besides, the place is hot, u are going to lose a few pounds just with all the walking and perspiring a lot. Enjoy, have fun. If its a decent hotel u staying, they serve continental breakfast.0 -
if you eat the genuine Thai food in the same size portions that the Thais eat you'll be fine. the food is amazing but the touristy food is different. eat in restaurants or street stalls where plenty of locals are eating. i didnt see a single overweight thai person when i traveled there0
