Anyone up for an 8 week challenge?

Hey MFPers,
I'm looking for a little extra motivation to stick with the good eating and exercise habits I started back at the beginning of March - so long ago, I know!
So, I propose an 8 week challenge of sorts. I suspect many of us here at MFP have experience with yo-yo dieting and following every fad diet out there. In the spirit of health that I believe MFP supports, I propose everyone set a reasonable goal for the 8 week period and we support and hold each other accountable.
Maybe the goal is to drop 5, 10, 15 lbs. Maybe the goal is to log your food (honestly) in MFP every day for 8 weeks. Maybe the goal is to exercise a certain number of minutes per week.
Personally, I'm gearing up for my first backpacking trip ever - plenty of camping, but that always involved a trailer full of stuff and at least a rustic campground. At least I'll have my best friend and favorite Eagle Scout at my side!
I have two goals for these 8 weeks:
1) I would like to drop between 10-15 pounds (which I feel comfortable doing in such a short time given my BMI is well into the obese range
2) I would like to exercise at least 30 minutes per day, 6 days per week.
If you are in, submit your goal(s) and buckle up!
Your friend in health and fitness,
Chris

I'm in! Is it okay if I have already completed the first week? My goals are:
1. To eat a healthier diet (although my husband and I are allowing us each one "cheat" day per week);
2. To complete a round of Beachbody's Insanity; and
3. To drop at least one size.
While I would like to give an estimate of how much I would like to lose pound-wise, I don't own a scale to even know how much I weigh right now anyway and the one I used to use at my mom's is broken. That's probably better though because I can just gauge my progress by how my clothes fit and how many inches I lose.
What a wonderful idea. This will keep us all accountable for our decisions. Good luck!0 -
Great idea - I am totally in! My goals:
1. Start and complete an 8 week 5k running prgram
2. Stop eating in front of the TV and eating while reading.
3. Try to only eat when I am hungry and stop when I am full.
First time in a long time I have looked forward to Monday!0 -
I am always up for a challange!!
I think I will set two goals for myself
1) to keep challenging myself in regards to my workouts. If it is getting easier, do something to make it harder!!
2) lose 9lbs in the eight weeks. I weighed 199.4 this morning so my goal is 190.40 -
I am in as well - and thanks so much for the idea and for the post, Chris!
My goals are:
Log in daily to record food & activity (I'm not the world's greatest food journaler, so this is big for me!!)
Exercise 4x per week - 60 minute sessions
Drop one size
Thanks again - and good luck!! Stacy0 -
Great idea!
Perfect timing for me!
Goals:
1.Meet my daily & weekly exercise goals.
2.Log all food accurately.
Hopefully, weight loss will follow.
Thanks for a good idea.0 -
Count me in!!! This is just what I need to hold myself accountable.
My goals for the next 8 weeks:
- Drop my weight to 150 (that is 12 pounds that I need to lose)
- Feel comfortable in a size 10 pant (no pinched waist!)
- Cardio 4x / week. Strength training 4x / week
Here we go!

I am definitely in kind of needing a challenge right now!
My goals are
1. Log all food eaten everyday
2. Lose 10 pounds
3. Continue to work hard at the gym!0 -
Oooohh - oooohhh! Me too!
Goals:
1) Get my 11 month old son outside every beautiful day for a minimum of 30 minutes!
2)Eat a minimum of 5 a day (fruits and veggies)
3)Hit my daily goals of Vit A, C, Calcium, Iron, Potassium, and Fiber - even if it means going a smidge over my daily allowance. I want to be healthy thin....I don't want to be thin and sacrifice my health.
4) Lastly, I would like to loose 8-10 lbs.0 -
It's great to know I will have some company!
My starting weight is 267. So I'm shooting for 252. Hopefully, that will also translate into a drop in pant size!0 -

Hi
Can I jump on board? Here's my goals:
1. Lose 8 pounds taking me from 157.3 on Monday to out of the 150s at 149.3!
2. Run 3 x a week including at least one long run.
3. Successfully run from my house to my parents house (15k and the last 4k are uphill)...some walking on the hill would be okay so long as I run the 11 flat ks
This is perfect timing as I have a long weekend trip to Melbourne for dancing in mid-June, so my reward for successfully completing these three goals will be some new clothes for the trip! Plus better fitness and stamina so I can dance ALL weekend! Yeah!0 -
This is just what I need!! A group of dedicated people to surround myself with! I have been trying to diet with work friends but it has not gone well at all. As soon as someone arrives in the office with a birthday cake, everyones diet goes out the window. I must admit I was beginning to lose motivation that I would ever get this weight off!
My 3 goals are: 1) make effort to log everything I eat!
2) do not go over my daily assigned calorie limit
3) excercise at least 3 days a week for a minimum of 30 min.0 -
Im in yall have been working out for a few days but i started my journey 6 weeks ago- still learning!! Ill do another 8 with yall
My goals...
1 lose as much as possible before my move on june 13th
2 drop a size
3 log everyday with exercise and food
4 burn a minimum of 500-600 calories per day
5 run a 5K under 30 minutes by may 13th.......basic graduatiion for my son!!!!
I wish everyone good luck!!!0 -
Welcome everyone who's just signing up today - quinnclan, ctabecoop, and hepkitty! I'm really pleased that so many people are joining us.
I hope everyone is doing well and that you are working your goals! After roughly 6 weeks using MFP to help plan and track my food, I'm starting to fit into clothes that have been too tight for me for a year or two. It's a great feeling and I want to keep building that momentum.
I don't see any dissent, so let's plan to check in on Fridays. Now it's time for me to go to bed so I can get up and put some miles on my treadmill in the morning! :yawn:0 -
Hey everyone, it's Friday here already so here's my update on progress:
1. Lose 8 pounds - this morning I weighed in at a loss of 1.75 pounds!
2. Have run 3x this week including one 8k run so, check!
3. Haven't tried the 15k run yet but I think I will aim for a first try either the 9th May or the 15th May.
How did everyone else go? I guess it's not Friday for most of you yet but I look forward to hearing everyone's progress reports! Good luck!0 -
Hey hekpitty,
Good on you! (Is that the phrase - oh, is that an Aussie phrase? If so, apologies!) Any way, that's great! It's only 8 p.m. here, so I don't know what tomorrow morning will bring.
Random question - are Jemaine Clement and Brett MacKenzie, aka Flight of the Conchords, popular in NZ? They crack me up!
Keep up the good work!0
