I believe that a half a cup of anything is 4 ounces.
  • thanks, it's saying half a cup of carbonara is 500 calories. That seems a lot for 4 ounces, i'm confused. Thanks for quick responce
  • Yep 1/2 cup is 4 oz. and 500 cals is alot! I don't think that would be worth it to me, that is almost half my cals for the day if I don't exercise. It's no wonder I was getting so big, I used to not worry about cals or anything and when I started on this site I was amazed at how much I was over eating and making bad food choices. GOOD LUCK!!! HEIDI
  • Thanks, better chance my allowance to 1 cup i think.

    Hi,

I have a measuring cup that is 1/2 cup and that holds 125mls.

Sometimes its easier than getting the scales out.

Actually 500 calories doesn't sound like alot for what it is....PASTA, cheese, cream pork and eggs...definitely a fattening meal...not worth it to me either. Maybe if you have a craving for it you should cut it down to a 1/4 cup so you don't feel deprived and then add lots of veges...

Carbonara is a sauce which usually has eggs, bacon or fatty pork, pecorino cheese, and butter. That is why the calories are so high.

Half a cup is NOT always 4 oz.

Always ensure that you know if you are measuring. 1/2 C dry is a volume measure, not a weight measure.

4 Fluid oz is half a cup because that's another VOLUME measurement (you should be using different cups for dry and liquid BTW).

Half a cup DRY measure can vary greatly in weight depending on what you are using.

Example: 1/2 Cup of shredded cheese weighs ~ 2oz, give or take.

Also, some times it will tell you 2 oz or 4 oz, that means you need to WEIGH your dry ingredients.
  • Thanks guys, I have changed my reading to 1 cup as I don't think half will quite do it for me. Ran for an hours today so still got 100 calories spare after my dinner, yay! Well done for everyones wait loss, it's amazing.
