i make one with ~5 frozen strawberries, half a banana, 1.5 cups of milk, 1 cup of strawberry yogurt, 1 scoop ON Whey Delicious Strawberry flavor. I think like that is a little over 600 cals. If I want to bump the cals up, I add olive oil. In the past when I needed it to be less cals, there was no yogurt and less milk.

I keep it simple. One scoop of whey protein, usually Six-Star chocolate, skim milk, a few strawberries, ice, and voila!

I used to put tons of crap in my protein shakes, but these days I like to keep it simple:

-8oz Unsweetened Vanilla Almond Milk (Silk Brand)
    -1 scoop vanilla protein powder
    -1 tbsp flax seed
    -1/2 banana

I love spirutein powders - it's a rice/pea/soy blend. It comes in a million delicious flavors. I mix mine with soy milk. The power itself has about 100 calories. I avoid the whey ones because I can't tolerate whey, but the other ones are delicious. Also gluten free for those interested.
  • I use Pure Protein triple chocolate which is 100 calories per scoop. I then add 1 cup unsweetened almond milk which is 30 calories. I then add 1/2 cup frozen mixed berries which is about 40 calories.

    1 cup yogurt
    1 cup frozen fruit
(fresh fruit like bananas, pineapple, mango, etc whatever you like)
    2 scoops protein powder
    1 cup milk/juice/liquid

Mix and match to your preferences.

I do the peaches and cream and oranges and cream by adding 1/2 a cup of frozen peaches or oranges and half of a scoop of vanilla protein powder. Then I add about 2 tbs frozen cool whip and enough spinach and water/ice to fill my blender.

I also do a chocolate peanut butter banana smoothie with half of a frozen banana, half a scoop of the vanilla protein powder, and then a tbs each of the PB2 Chocolate and Peanut Butter and then fill with spinach and water/ice.

There's also a chai one, I bought a carton of Tazo concentrated chai latte mix. Mix 1/2 cup of that with 1/2 cup of milk (or almond milk) and the 1/2 scoop of vanilla protein powder, fill with spinach and water/ice.

I also freeze a cup of coffee, throw that in the blender with the vanilla protein powder, a little milk, spinach and some stevia.

And I will also freeze up some of the v-8 energy drink (blueberry pomegranate), half of a frozen banana, and spinach.

I try to get my shakes around 200 calories.
  • I'm really into Kale smoothies at the moment, I have one every day mid-morning:

    1 cup (tightly packed) kale
    1 cup unsweetened almond milk
1 scoop vanilla whey isolate powder (Kazein brand)
    1 kiwi, skin removed
    1/2 banana

The kiwi really neutralizes the strong bitter flavour of the kale. Love it!!!

How do those protein powders taste? Any brands I should avoid or lean towards? I almost bought some the other day, but they only came in huge containers. I wasn't willing to risk it without looking into it a bit more.

I'm on a tight budget so I get Pure Protein at Walmart for $9.97 and it's not a HUGE container. I like the triple chocolate; tastes great to me.
  • If you like the taste of peanut butter, this one is great:

One serving (2 Tbsp) peanut butter
One scoop vanilla flavor protein powder
2 or 3 cups of raw Spinach or Kale

It's only 360 calories and, despite the spinach/kale and those nutrients, all you taste is peanut butter.

I drink ViSalus shakes. They are fantastic. I make tons of different recipes with them. My favorite (the one I'm addicted to right now) is banana, apple, cinnamon. I can't get enough of it. http://vi90diet.com
