Just got diagnosed about a week ago. Was wondering if anyone else had been diagnosed type 2?? New to this so I could use all the help I can get.

  • I was diagnosed this past May. My A1C was at 12 ...
Since then I have lost 50 pounds and brought my A1C down to 7.2 and working on getting it to at least 6.5. I lost the initial weight just by counting the carb intake for the diabetes but the weight loss has slowed WAAYYY down. So I am here to try and manage calories better and not just count the carbs. I am determined to get off the the medication (not insulin) that I am taking now. My advice though was best given by the RD that I saw. She said if I counted the carbs per meal that I was alloted (45-60 g) that the weight would come off. Good Luck!
  • Welcome, Debra! My first A1C was around 11. I had tested my sugar and had it as high as 440. I am using two oral medicines twice a day and am now running ad low as 107 to about 160. Don't know if you are on Facebook, but I just set up a new group called, Type II. Her is the link:

Since you have been at this for a while with a great deal of success, I am all ears.

I was diagnosed type II when I was 250 pounds. 165 pounds now and no more type II diabetes. No more high blood pressure, sciatic nerve issues, cholesterol normal. All I did was count calories. My diary is wide open for all to see.

    EDIT: NO MORE MEDS EITHER!!!!!
  • That is awesome! My Dr. told me I would have to take these meds the rest of my life. I told her to wait and see. How many carbs do you allow yourself?
