Hi Everyone,
I have been doing some research on the ingredients in the Shakeology shake I drink each day and would love to share it here and get feedback from others. There have been lots of questions recently about Shakeology and I think knowledge is power. This is no ordinary shake. :drinker:
One of the ingredients is Sacha Inchi. According to Wickipedia, Sacha Inchi is is a perennial plant with somewhat hairy leaves, in the Euphorbiaceae. It is native to the Amazon Rainforest, where it has been cultivated by indigenous people for centuries.
Sacha Inchi oil production is increasing in the Peruvian Amazonand is gaining international recognition for its taste and health properties. In June 2007, Sacha Inchi oil won the Médaille d'or(Gold Medal) at the AVPA[1]Specialty Foods Commodities competition. Sacha Inchi has been called a super food because of its high content of essential fatty acids. The oil has a mild flavour, not bitter, with a nutty finish. With new research emphasizing the health benefits of Omega fatty acids, interest in sustainable sources of Omega is increasing. Sacha Inchi oil is used in vegetarian diets to provide a plant source for Omega-3 fatty acids.
A positive ratio of omega-3 to omega-6 fats, which the Sacha Inchi has, provides many benefits. Below are the benefits I read about today.
I'd love to hear your thoughts....
CANCER
Clinical studies show that an adequate balance between Omega 3 and Omega 6 is the determinant in developing breast cancer. Excess Omega 6 can stimulate the development of breast cancer while Omega 3 reduces it. In another aspect, other studies demonstrate that the consumption of Omega 3 fatty acids can inhibit the growth of prostate cancer.
DEPRESSION
People that don't consume enough Omega 3 fatty acids and don't maintain a healthy balance of Omega 3 and Omega 6 in their diet increase the risk of suffering from depression. Omega 3 is an important component of the cell membranes of the nervous system. Omega 3 fatty acids help the cells communicate with one another, thus having a healthy mental state.
DIABETICS:
Studies demonstrate that tissues respond better to insulin in adult diabetics when having more Omega 3 and Omega 6 in their cell membranes. It also helps lower the levels of bad cholesterol and triglycerides as well as raising the levels of HDL or good cholesterol.
ALZHEIMERS
According to new clinical testing, Omega 3 fatty acid supplements can reduce the cognitive deteriorating in patients with mild Alzheimer's disease. Those with a genetic predisposition are more vulnerable if they lack adequate dosage of Omega 3, for its ample consumption can prevent this terrible disease.
ADD
Low levels of the essential Omega 3 fatty acid can cause hyperactivity in children. In effect, according to studies, those with low levels of Omega 3 will have a harder time learning and worse conduct than children with normal levels of Omega 3.
PREGNANCY AND BREAST FEEDING
Omega 3 consumption during pregnancy and while breast-feeding is essential for brain and neurological development starting at the fetal stage. Omega 3 improves the postural, motor and social functions of premature babies. It also has a positive effect in the mental development of the child.
OSTEOPOROSIS AND ARTHRITIS
Studies indicate that Omega 3 fatty acids like EPA help increment calcium levels in the body, fix calcium in the bones, and improve strength while reducing the probabilities of suffering from osteoporosis. At the same time, it reduces pain and alleviates inflammation due to arthritis.

Thanks for posting this. I was actually thinking abt buying the Shakeology from Beachbody but I wasn't sure if it really worked. You said you have been drinking it everyday. Are you noticing a difference?0

Amberc - it works, I am feeling better and even though I just broke my plateau weight wise I am losing inches better than I was before I started drinking the shakes.0 -
I drink it every day, and have for almost 90 days now. I have more energy, it has helped me lose weight and while on an antibiotic, I did not get a yeast infection (woo hoo!). That one benefit is worth every penny as far as I am concerned! You can get Shakeology at www.muffintopnomore.com0
