How can I not be loosing weight?

Hey, I started my diet about 3 weeks ago. I started at 65kilos (normally 59kg) I had been eating heaps of junk food and take away to get to that weight. In the past 3 weeks Ive cut my calorie intake in half, Started going to the gym 5 times a week and have cut out most of my carbs. Im now 67kg. Im so confused because normally the first couple of weeks of doing this I drop loads and now Im putting on weight? Cant be muscle yet all Im doing is running and still carrying around all this extra weight. HELP PLEASE!

We need more info to be honest. How many calories are you eating? Way are you eating? What exercise are you doing?

More than likely its just water retention (it's NOT muscle) but its hard to say with what you're providing.

What's your calorie goal? Have you actually cut your calories in half? I wonder if your body might be stressed from the dramatic reduction. Another possibility is water retention, if you've just started doing intense exercise that can be a factor. Are you weighing at the same time of day in the same clothes to make sure your reading is accurate? Do you normally have a lot of fluctuations?

Plus, how accurately you are weighing, measuring and logging your food.

How tall are you? Just because you cut your calories in half doesn't mean anything really. If you're still eating junk, but less junk, you can still gain weight. It's not ALWAYS about "calories in vs. calories out" but often about what your eating. Sometimes eating certain foods can cause hormone unbalances that lead to weight gain.

What are you doing at the gym? Often times when you start lifting you will build up glycogen stores in your muscles. This is usually just water and a little bit of sugar that the muscles use for immediate energy (like heavy lifting, gymnastics, fast twitch type of exercises). People very often mistake building up glycogen stores for gaining muscle, because they do tend to bulk up. You can't really gain more than a pound of muscle a month, at most for the most well seasoned woman. Gaining muscle is a lot harder than the majority of people think (why natural body builders take years of dedication to get their physique). Also if you're eating too much protein than your body needs, that converts to sugar to be stored as fat.

    Hope this helps.

No issue with this post except the bolded part. Any excess calories turn into fat when looked at the energy balance as a whole. One specific macro does not get converted into fat. If you are in a caloric deficit, nothing will turn into fat.
  • Im eating around 1200 calories a day. Im 167cm tall. The food I've been eating is mostly salads, ham and salad wraps, Grilled fish, salmon, fruit and vegs. At the gym I''m running on the treadmill for 20 mins, stairs for 20 and bike for 20. Thanks for the advice guys! Also weighing myself first thing in the morning just before a shower.

So even with the extra 2kg yre still in the healthy weight range. (Tough too heavy for comfort sake)

I'm eating 1690 calories and losing weight consistently. It also might be an issue of body composition with you, so more weights would definitely help.

Based on what you're saying, it's water retention. Don't weigh for a month and see how you go.

I would eat more. I am your height, and just slightly heavier than you and I was losing weight easily on 1500. Though I am actually bumping my calories up to 1800, so we will see how that goes.
