Hi there....

I am new to MFP....so far I really like it a LOT! But I have a question....I am postpartum and breastfeeding my baby....which I know changes my caloric intake needs and also my caloric output daily. Is there something I am missing where I can customize my profile to accommodate for that or do I just need to take it into account in my own head everyday??

Thanks in advance!

    Click the home tab.
    Click the goals tab.
    Click the change goals button.
Choose the custom option and enter what you want.

I manually set my goals to account for breastfeeding, so my calorie goal is 400 higher than MFP sets it at. You can also add breastfeeding as a cardio exercise and that will increase your calorie needs.

Depending on how far postpartum you are, I would be careful with restricting your calories. When you cut back on calories, you risk losing your milk which can be concerning for many women. Making sure you are getting enough protein, fats and water will help, but there is still a chance that you might lose the ability to breastfeed.

Good luck! I am trying to lose the weight with a 10 month old and it is much tougher now than pre-baby!

I have a friend that tracks breastfeeding. She's lucky!

You can enter it as an item in your daily food log. There are options ranging from an exclusively BFed newborn (500 calories) to older BFed babies with lower amounts. It enters them as negative calories so you can eat more.

I started logging again last December when my little girl was a month old and safely lost all the pregnancy weight, and then some, without hurting my supply. She's nearly 14 months and still nursing.
