Anyone work 3rd shift like me?

Just looking for some people who might have a similar schedule like me...I was working 2 full time jobs and eating horrible because I had no time to do anything. So I quit one job almost 2 wks ago because my health is more important to me. I've been working 3rd shift for 7 months but finding it hard to stick to a routine the past 2 weeks. Sleeping is all messed up for me  Wanted to find some new friends with similar schedule or maybe people who have been through the same thing. Good luck everyone! :flowerforyou:

I'm about to go on 3rd shift here, so I welcome any thoughts as well. For now, my plan is to work my shift and then workout when I get home in the AM, after the wife leaves for work.
  • Sounds like a good plan so far (:

i work 330-midnight. its hard to fall asleep when i get home. so i wake up pretty late but i just go to the gym as soon as i get up then come home n clean or whatever (bc i pumped with energy from going to the gym) n then go to work. doesnt leave much time for anything else but i try to do this3-5 times a week. my off days i run errands or whatever.
  • Urfavgrldani I use to work 4p-12a at a casino and I loved that shift. I actually had an easier time sleeping but that was like 6 or 7 yrs ago Sounds like you have a pretty good plan to so far too.
  • I completely understand, I have been working night shift for most of the past 15 years. Right now i am working 12 hr nights, 8p-8a. there are days i dont know if i am comming or going! logging food entries can be a challenge, some days are 8 hours long and others are 24. Everyone I work with here has a different plan to deal with it, so all i can say if try different things, find what works best for you, and lean on friends/family for support. I try to fit my workouts in only on my days off, which is three to four a week, but when i worked 8 hour nights, i would work out in the evening around 9ish when the kids were heading to bed, that gave me time to cool down and get ready for work, when i tried working out in the mornings, i stayed up to late and it didn't take long to crash and burn from that plan. the hardest thing for me is avoiding the sweets when i get tired. not a coffee drinker, but always quick to grab some chocolate for an energy boost... good luck to ya

I work 7pm- 7 am on a rotating shift so I either work 2 days or 5 days a week... I personally find it easier to get my schedule right on nights but that's just because I can do my thing and not worry about other people. If I can I try and fit a workout in while I'm on shift, if not I go after shift.

Also, search for 'official night shift' .. there's a reoccuring thread that pops up every night for us nocturnal creatures.
  • I work as a Carer and have odd shifts I never have time to excersize I'm worried this will stop me losing weight

I use to work 11p-7am and I found it helpful to get my workout in around 8 pm for about an hour and then I had more energy to make it through the night. I liked to sleep when I got off work.
