Has anyone used zumba to lose weight and does it work as good as they claim it does? I hope so because I just ordered the dvd's and I hate to think that I just wasted my money.

I too attend a class and it's my most favourite aerobics class EVER.

I tell everyone I know, if you loved to go out dancing in your 20's and no longer enjoy the "club scene", try Zumba! It's just THAT much fun!!!

Have the DVDs and attend classes. I've lost 12 lbs but it's like anything else, you have to eat right also. My waist is definately smaller and more toned after about 6 weeks of it. Good luck!

I don't have the videos but I go once a week and it really kicks my booty. I work different muscles then on the eliptical or bike. I have a friend who uses the bug and she says she burns about 1000 calories at zumba. I think it really depends on how much you put into it I always add arms slide really big lunge deeply, but it definitely burns calories and is a ton of fun.

I agree, Zumba is fabulous! I havent done it for very long but one hour of straight cardio HAS to be positive for weight loss!

The inches just come melting off... go to the class! You'll actually enjoy sweating for the hour... : )
  • I do zumba classes and I think it works. A friend of mine has been doing Zumba for 2 years now. She does it 3-4 times a week. She went from around a size 10 to a size 4 in two years from doing it.

I have attended the classes and it works up a good sweat - some people online here burn 6-700 cals doing Zumba - I manage about 450 cals. It is good fun, so enjoy

Okay, I am excited and can't wait for the dvd's to get here lol. It's going to take 3 - 7 days. There is light weights that come with the order so that should make it interesting for me. I may never be able to do the full hour because of lung issues, but I think I will be fine because it is also my understanding that burning calories depends on the heart rate. As long as my H R is in my range, I should burn those calories. Hope so anyway lol

I did the DVDs for the first time on Tuesday. It was a great workout and you can modify the moves or take a break if you find yourself getting tired. I had a great time doing it. I might start doing a class on Saturdays or one night during the week. It's a great overall workout.

I just get so excited when I see all the positive feedback about Zumba. I am a Zumba Instructor!!! It is a great workout program and since it is so much fun you dont even feel that you are exercising!! About the amount of calories you burn, it all depends on the intensity, weight of the person, etc etc. So it can vary...

Nellie, anyone should be able to follow a class with no problem. It has to do a lot with the instructor, he/she should teach modifications and try to make it easier for those who are having trouble following some steps. I always tell my students not too worry much about the steps but to keep moving and do their own style to get the cardio benefit of it. And HAVE FUN!!!

    Zumba Love!!! :flowerforyou:

Well I certainly hope I'll be able to do it or atleast get some benefit out of it as I have asthma and emphysema. I get short winded after a few minutes. I can't hardly make it 15 min of regular dancing with the stereo on.

Hello all you Zumba Lovers! I go to Zumba 3 times a week and think its a great form of cardio, its so much fun that it doesn't feel toooo much like hard exercise  i'm sure it certainly helps burn up some calories at the same time.

I was kinda wishing that they would come today!!! I've also found a class in my area that starts on the 12th May. I'm thinking a couple of weeks of the DVD's and then I might not be so nervous about doing the class. I'll need to round up some of my friends!!!

Can't wait for they DVD's to come!!!

donna56, since you are going to be using dvd's it will be much easier for you to pace yourself and do the best you can. I am guessing you are on medication for your condition. Start slow but be consistent and you will be able to "train" your lungs and build your endurance. The main thing is not to give up and stay positive.

eclairuk, don't be nervous about attending a Zumba class. Most instructors are very welcoming and encouraging. You will love it!!! If there are any steps you cant follow just smile and keep moving at your pace and your style. I had a new student the other day who said she was nervous and she did great!!! And she came back to my next class!!!!

    Zumba Love!! :flowerforyou:

YAY I'm going to my first Zumba class tomorrow and am so excited!! I love everyones positive feedback on the classes. I struggle to excercise 60mins straight from boredom, and things getting to repetitive so this Zumba class will hopefully kick my butt.

i LOVE zumba. it' makes me young again. i definitely think you should try a live class before committing to dvd's. half of the fun is dancing with other women dancing.

Zumba has most definitely contributed to my weight loss. And not only is it a great weight loss tool but it's also a blast!!! Our instructor is great and makes every class so much fun and so enjoyable it's like you're just dancing for an hour and don't even feel like you're exercising. Good luck!!

I got my DVD's on Tuesday and wasn't disappointed. I have only tried the beginner one until I get used to the steps but can't wait to try the rest. My arm muscles are sore so they've obviously been worked out but at the time it didn't feel like it!!!!

I'll try a different one next week and see how I go. Although the DVD's are fun I think I'll need to go to a class to get the full effect. Donna did you get yours?

No, I didn't get mine yet. I ordered them last Friday. I thought I would have them by now. I was pretty sure because I had paid in full and they said 3 - 7 days if you pay in full. Maybe today or tomorrow. I hope

alf1163 It was OK - It was an absolute begginers class and seemed very basic. I was expecting more high energy and more 'salsa' hip shaking instead of aerobic moves like grapevine....but im in Australia - where are you all from. I'll definately give it another go, but might try looking for a more advanced class.
