Tea recommendations?

I'm trying to cut back on my Diet Coke consumption, but...I'm not a huge fan of water. I don't want to put any flavor (Mio, Propel, etc.) in the water because it would defeat the purpose of trying to get away from artificial ingredients.

I'm a complete newbie when it comes to tea, but I've tried green tea and oolong. I'm not a fan of either, though I could stomach the oolong better than I could the green tea. I've heard that there are different tea blends available, and I was wondering if anybody on here had any recommendations for me. I'm a fan of pretty much anything sweet or fruity.

Anybody have any recommendations? Also, retailers where I could acquire such tea for a reasonable price?

I got a sample pack from the holidays that included Cranberry Tea. Since you like fruity/sweet.

I buy this direct from the grower.

    It's a black tea.
Ruined me for motel teabags, I now travel WITH my teapot.
(Although you can buy teabags from them if you want)

Reasonable price, I get it from Krogers, but I am sure other grocery stores and the like carry it: Celestial Seasonings Raspberry Zinger Herbal Tea. It is caffeine free. And I add a packet of Truvia and a lot of lemon juice, and it ends up tasting much like kool aid. so this is good both hot and iced.

There is also in the same brand/price: True Blueberry. I do the same to it, and it is tasty. I prefer the raspberry though :)

More expensive but soooooo tasty: Teavana White Ayurvedic Chai & Samurai Chai Mate White Tea. It is a blend and it's SO good. I just add 1 packet of Truvia for a bit of sweetness. :)

You might want to consider Earl Grey (it's black tea flavored with orange peels). Lemon-ginger teas are also good (but not caffeinated). Lucky for you, Twining's makes both, and is available at the supermarket!

Also, if you really want to treat yourself, go to a fancy tea store and buy Chinese black tea with rose hips and lychee. OMG, it's good. Chrysanthemum tea or chrysanthemum pu-erh tea can also be acquired that way, and are super-delicious (but traditionally drunk with a tiny bit of sugar).

Wow, thanks for the recommendations everybody! I really appreciate it! I'll have to check to see if any of these are available at my local grocery store (though it sounds like they should be)!
  • Passion tea is absolutely the best for people new to tea and used to sweeter drinks like soda. You can get it at Starbucks and the organic aisle in the grocery store
  • If you're up for a splurge and ready to fall in love, check out Teavana and ask for some samples. Their chai blew me away. You'll really be able to tell when you're drinking good tea, and in turn, it will help you drink more- it's good for you! :)
  • Peppermint tea :) like 2 calories a mug, and its really refreshing :)

I am a huge fan of Tetley tea. I drink it will a little milk and sugar (or honey). I have just recently heard about PG Tips, it can be found at shop rite. Look for it at any grocery store though. I also Like Twinnings teas, I like Chamomile tea, they also have one with Vanilla and honey. I usually add a tiny bit of sugar or honey to the herbal teas and I don't add milk to them.

  • I'm a tea "snob". I have over 40 kinds of loose tea. I brew 20 oz of tea in the morning and then bring it into work, to drink as iced tea. I do not drink soda. There are so many varieties. If you like fruity teas, go for the roobios blends. But they have the least caffiene. If you need the jolt, there are plenty of black & oolong teas that are mixed blends. If your trying to wean off coffee try Mate tea. It almost has as much caffeine as coffee.

Go to your local mall, they should have a Teavana store. Smell the teas, try them out.

teavana loose leaf teas are awesome. You can find a blend that you like there in green or oolong teas that wont be as strong. Also, wholefoods has a loose leaf tea section that you might want to try.

Also, I found out the hard way that green tea should only be brewed for a minute or so and not in boiling hot water. You can burn the tea leaves which gives it that grassy taste. I would make sure you are brewing it correctly and possible try it again.
