Trouble staying under in my sugar??

I check my daily macros or whatever you'd like to call them, and I am almost always over on my sugar.
Thing is, I don't get it from eating sweets and stuff. Like this morning for breakfast I made a smoothie with mango and a little bit of orange juice.

Is it okay if I am getting this sugar intake from fruits?
I actually never really eat candies and stuff.
I like my mango's, apple's, and oranges :(

Some people will say yes, some will say no - if you're diabetic, it matters a lot. If you're insulin resistant, it matters. How would you know if you're insulin resistant? A glucose tolerance test would actually tell you, but the Paleo people would tell you that if you tend to collect fat in the belly area, that's a big sign.

Personally I think sugar's the devil (I eat fruit, but in fairly restricted amounts), but I'm diabetic so I'm biased.

You can skip the OJ to trim the empty sugar a bit (you're getting tons of vitamins and fiber with the mango), or if you're seeing results with what you're doing now and you really like your smoothie as-is, hey, why worry?
  • I'm just starting over from scratch now, so I can't say I'm having results just yet. But I am not diabetic and have never had any problems with sugar. I try and have about one good serving of fruits a day, I hope this isn't going to ruin my efforts because of sugar content :(

You go over in sugar but does sugar have any other affect on you? If it doesnt impede your progress i wouldn't worry too much about it. I say that since you say it's coming from natural fructose. Personally I cut my sugar and I see it is TOTALLY helping my progress. I have one "cheat" meal a week and this week it was a root beer float! mmm so good! And one sugar loaded dessert ( portioned out- I won't eat all of it or I will get sick) won't effect me and I still meet my weekly goals sugar wise for the most part. If you are really concerned...or just really curious...cut the fruits for a week or 2 and see if you notice a difference in anything. How you look or how you feel or even how well you do your exersizes. good luck to ya!

If you're hungry and reaching for natural sugars, go for it. If you're making good progress, keep doing what you're doing.

A lot of "diet" foods are really high in sugar/carbs. If you take fat out of a recipe, you have to add something to make it tasty. For example, some non-fat greek yogurts have an enormous amount of sugar in them.

If you're overloading on sugar you may find yourself hitting a plateau as you get closer to your goal weight. If that happens re-assess the source the sugar in your meals. If you're overdoing it, cut from the processed foods first.

I had a really ugly overage of sugar for months and I started going nowhere on the scale. On top of that, was always hungry. It turned out that I was way too low on natural fats and way too high in carbs. Now I limit the sugars to natural sugars and try to have the majority of my carbs in the morning. That helped me a lot.
