Lose more then 1lb a week?

Here is what my profile says - 1200 calories limit - but thats only losing 1 lb per week. I want to lose more then 1lb...I want to lose 2lbs a week... I am 5'6, 136 lbs, and 29 years old - is 2 lbs a week no longer achievable?

That is not achievable for someone of your weight, to create a big enough deficit to lose that much weight that quickly you would be eating well under 1200 calories. Not sustainable. You would end up losing muscle as well as fat, you would end up 'skinny fat', with a slower metabolism.

Slow and steady wins the race.

Try a modest deficit combined with some lifting... try to focus on lowering body fat, rather than 'losing weight' on the scales.

No, it's not realistic. In fact, because you are already a healthy weight and have fewer than 20 lbs to lose, the odds are that you should not be losing more than half a pound per week.

To ensure good health, do a search for your BMR and make sure to eat at least that many calories per day. My guess is that this means you will need to eat at least 1400 calories a day, so you'd lose about 1/2 pound per week.

  • I started at just under 250. My goal was also 2 pounds per week to get to 200 and maintain. But as the previous posts state not good. I was losing it but was seeing the effect in my mood and my diet was going downhill because I was thinking fewer calories and more cardio will get me to my goal faster.

You are at the right age and weight for the current 1 pound goal. Listen to the previous posts. Good advise!

    Good Luck!

Thanks for the comments. I really need to add some cardio and strength training in.
  • Mix in strength and cardio exercises. Nutrition plays a huge role as well. If you eat healthy and exercise... The weight should just fall off. Also, change up your routine every four weeks so your body doesn't plateau (muscle confusion). I also recommend recovery drinks or protein shakes after an exercise to get the optimum results. Good luck!
