Hello all! I’ve been using MFP for over a year now with some success on and off. Now I’m looking to lose 5 – 10 pounds; hopefully at least 5 pounds before I go for first wedding dress fitting.

I need some encouragement! My biggest problem is that I can’t maintain weight loss after I’ve lost the weight. Does anyone else struggle with this? This time around I want to lose the weight and make it stick without having to constantly worry about what I’m eating. I understand that this involves a lifestyle change, but I can’t figure out how to get there.

Help!

  • I've had the same problem, When I first joined the app I lost 10lbs in about 2 months but then gained it all back in what felt like less time. Feel free to add me and we can keep each other motivated :)

I'm guessing this means you stop logging your food. Weight maintenance isn't automatic... its a function of what you eat and what you do being balanced. If you have proved to your own satisfaction that you are less adept at 'guessing' your balance than you would wish, I think this means accepting that paying attention to what you eat would help you.

None of this has to mean 'worrying' about it. Attitude towards your choices is something aside , from the physical taks of simply taking a few moments to record the choices that you make as and when you make them.

    Do you exercise?
What makes you gain weight again? Eating more?

I lost 6lbs in 2 days (mostly water) from the Keto diet but now that i've come off it i gained 2-3lbs back but that is granted due to water fluctuations.

The way i see it is, don't look at the scales just look at yourself in the mirror. If you can see/feel the BF% dropping then that is great and if you can't then you know that you need to have a look at your calories eaten vs calories burned

Def. this! Log your food for a few months win maintenance so that you get a good idea of what the amount of food you should be eating looks like. Hopefully, over time, you'll be able to stop logging, but there is no shame in food journaling!

Thanks for all of the comments! I do exercise regularly - I go at least Monday through Friday. I think there are some valid points in your responses - maybe the issue is that I haven't been paying to what my balance is. I think maybe I rely too heavily on the calorie count rather than paying attention to how I feel when I eat I and afterward. Thanks!
